He knew how to live off the land at 14 years old-

Crazy thing is, he escaped the Kentucky coal mine, just to end up back in an Indiana coal mine...

But conditions were much better, according to the man himself-

He ran away from a coal camp near Whitesburg...

The problem was, it just sat there for a couple of seconds then lurched backwards, when normally it backs up the incline smoothly-
I have not backed up a steep hill but slowly forward up hill in LOW works much better. Try backing in LOW.

I believe all the former posts are on the right track.

Nothing is wrong.

This is one of those "features" meant to be helpful. I have seen this behavior quite a few times. We don't have to like it. But it is part of the vehicle's design that most of us were not used to.

Key is awareness. Now that you know, it's just an annoyance more than anything.

One time I had mine up on ramps.
Since a stationary vehicle has a lot of inertia when I tried to back off the ramps same thing happened to me and the truck remained stationary and the ramps went flying. Scared my wife half to death. She came running out of the house after hearing crashing metal (ramps).

P.S. this may be a reason I don't change my own oil in the future. 🤔
Free coffee and maybe a cookie or two at dealer helps with oil change cost plus maybe help with warranty do it decision points "insurance"?

Hmm.... I doubt you are on to something. Is that even possible?

I park on an incline and back in every time-

Today, when I gave it some throttle in reverse it hesitated then lurched backwards...

Kinda close to having an accident!

Has anyone heard of this happening???
Do you use your E Brake? Or auto hold?

Try creep mode in normal mode and then in normal low mode and of course also with small acceleration. Makes big difference if going over a 1 to 2 inch bump taking much less accelerator. Repeat in reverse.
OK I checked and low does not come on in reverse so I assume it's already there. My maverick has improved since I had the power train reprogram done about a month ago. 23E09. I have not had any sleep problems but at 20 months I feel it getting closer but who knows until it happens.

Ok.
I had to go try it.

L button does NOTHING in reverse.
(As you would expect.)

Creep in D goes 0-4 mph.
Creep in L goes 0-2 mph.

There is no detectible difference in power.

Without momentum, D would not creep over a speed bump.

Without momentum, L would not creep over a speed bump.

The setting is rightmost of the three in the back of the lower console...on my hybrid it "holds" and pops when accelerator is applied. Keeps me sitting still and not creeping at a stop. You can switch it off.

Me, too.
Living alone, I don't want to deal with some sort of freak accident involving ramps, whether getting on/off them or whilst I'm under the truck

I normally have the brake hold on, then also use the parking brake-

Gonna try to remember to turn off the brake hold before I back uphill, drive on ramps, or enter a carwash...
