I can turn radio on without key fob

I have a 2024 Lariat Hybrid. (Push button start). Sync3 radio system.

I was trying to fix a dash rattle (see TSB 24-2317) instead of taking it to the dealer. My keys were in the house (so not on Run or Accessory). My drivers door was open and my arm deep under the dash. My head must have leaned on the radio volume button. All of a sudden, my radio was on. Opening or closing door does not shut off radio. I need to pust the volume button to shut off radio.

I can re-create this situation at will now.
1) Do not have key fob with you.
2) open driver door, get it. Leave door open or close it.
3) push and hold volume button for a second or 2, radio comes on. I get AM, FM and SiriusXM
(May need to push volume button a second time to get media screen to appear)
4) open, close door. Radio stays on.
5) push volume button to turn off radio.

What the heck. isthis part of the battery drain. (Besides SSM 53801)

Can anyone else do this ?

In my '22 hybrid XLT, I can turn on the radio when the truck is off, and it will stay on for 30 minutes. Probably a Forscan thing?

When it appears my 12V battery isn't dying soon enough for a well timed warranty replacement - I can help a little and walk away.

I could see this becoming a parasitic drain - another item that could accidentally be running when you think power is off and it should not be.

Found this when I was driving my 2013 Fusion. Can do it in my 2022 Maverick. Can do it in my wife's 2021 Chevy Equinox.

Probably an industry wide feature.

Nope, this is exactly how it is designed to function. The BMS will shut the radio down prior to excessive discharge levels.

My Escape keys will open the trunk from a block away.... so I keep them in a tin to avoid aiding miscreants with semi-functionality or signal boost/relay for proximity spoofing.

Have you ever tested if they indeed do what the manual says - goes to sleep when not moved?
Saves the fob battery.

Set on table in garage near the vehicles for several minutes non-moving, attempt the keyless entry.

Of course if this isn't keyless - never mind. Those don't send out a signal until a button is pressed anyway.

The windows will work also...after you take the key out....as long as you don't open and close the door. You can open the door and still move the windows.

Yes. It's been a Ford feature for years. I could do it on my 2016 F-150, so nothing new on Maverick. It requires no Forscan intervention. However, Forscan programming changes to configure our Mavericks and other Ford vehicles for many other features is fantastic.

Rav4 had a time limit to adjust them.
Even radio shuts off eventually. Well, that could be my low voltage too, so battery saver timeout.

Yes, there's a default time limit, but don't recall what it is in the Mav. My 2016 F-150 was set at 20 minutes, but I changed it to one hour with Forscan. Haven't bothered to see if radio timeout is changeable on Maverick with Forscan.
