In NJ you can't pump your own gas. I pay cash for my gas so it is always rounded up to the next dollar. At current prices it is not much. Don't understand why this could be harmfull.

I think we are finding out that we can put more then 13.5g in. I have put over 14g in regularly, and even put 14.5g in once.

Its very confusing that the literature says 13.8 and 14.3.

I have been following a few individuals that have put in over 15g and maybe 16?

As time goes by we shall see what is the safe amount to put in.
I am not recomending how much to fill.

I ran my 1st. Tank of gas down to 22 Miles and headed over to the pump. I filled the tank till it auto shutoff at 14.755 gals.

You can put it more then 15g, wouldnt recommend it.

RUG pumps are different with different calibrations.

When the fuel gauge shows empty you generally have 10-30 miles of reserve gas remaining to get to a gas station safely. Objectively, you should never let you vehicle get that low to find out..

My normal refuel occurs at 120 miles to E but have refueled at 50-60 a couple of times. Been there done that = pull into station to buy gas an electricity was out and the eight stations were all down and the next town was 62 miles away!

I m with you on the 14-14.5 is normal, cool, past that is uncharted territory. There's several people, several times on here that have done 14.5 and we haven't gotten any negative press from it yet..so inch out from there? I m going to 15g next fill up..

There's a 17g fill up that I have heard of. So we will see, 15g next up.

I went to high school 63 years ago and one of my buddies worked for the state for many years verifying the metering of the gas pumps was accurate. Quite often he had to lock pumps until they were recalibrated. Was many years ago but probably still done

Makin, can you believe they changed that law, put it back on the owers to be in calibration. Well whos checking it? The people selling the RUG? Isnt that a conflict of interest?

The other day i was reading about the accuracy (or inaccuracy)of the fuel computer miles to empty, i cant remember exactly however it was like 40% - and 50% +. Crazy variation, so i would think there is alot more left then 0 when it displays such.

Could be up to 20m and then theres the recal, if its in the moddle of that sequence.

Anything below 1/2 tank is empty. Live by this rule and you won't ever have to walk.

MY HYBRID HAS A 16 gallon tank, and I'm so happy! The books / publications are wrong.

No laughing at the MPG. I was towing HEAVY with also 500 lbs. in the truck in the Sierra Mountains. Steep grades.

I pumped in 12.7 gallons to first click on automatic. 12.8'to second click. 12.9 to third click and I stopped.

One-fourth more (approx.) to 12 sure looks like 16!

At the tank before I put in 15 gallons, and I was NOT empty. I filled up just past MTE 0 and did not use up the hidden reserve. On a youtube a guy wanted to see how far he could drive on EV when he ran out of gas, so he ran out of gas on purpose. He went about a gallon worth of miles before running dry. So I'm confident there is a gallon usable past MTE 0.

So, there's actually a bunch of equipment in the gas tank of the hybrid, more than usual. It's in place to improve gas mileage. At least part of its function is to pressurize the tank. The problem is its eats up space.

As I recall, the actual tank size is in the 14 - 15 gallon range, but that equipment takes up space and it can't be totally submerged in fuel so the actual capacity is 13.8. This is why hybrid documentation is very insistent that you don't try to do a double fuel up to 'top off' the tank. Once the overflow trips the gas pumps auto-shut-off, stop.

EDIT: Oh, and 13.8 is correct as far as capacity goes. I ran this thing dry for my first fill-up and I only got 13.775 gallons in.

Here's a thought: Maybe the tank just SEEMS like it holds more than rated capacity because the excess is leaking out the holes they drilled in the tank when they put the spray in bed liner in!!!
