I'm sure it's happened, but down here in the mostly unfrozen Ozarks, I don't know of anyone personally who's ever had that problem.

Based on others here who say it's not worth the extra cost for real gas, despite the higher mileage, I'll probably just continue buying ethanol blend, at least until they get rid of the stupid subsidy for ethanol. Waste of taxpayer money, IMO.
I think it's more a matter of the humidity and dew point. Does it get humid in the Ozarks 🥵!

I'm highly skeptical of the 5mpg improvement claim when using 100% gasoline.
Absolutely did not happen.

Keeping poor records and/or comparing invalid datasets could happen. For example driving on a 60 degree calm day with ethanol free and comparing that to a trip with E10 87 when it's 30F into a 20 mph headwind.

Recently, I accidentally grabbed the wrong nozzle at the gas pumps and filled my 2.5 Hybrid with what we call "real gas" around here. I noticed it when the pump was showing the price as 50¢ more per gallon than the price marquee showed for "Regular" (10% ethanol) gas. I did not notice the Octane rating, but it was just Regular ethanol-free, not mid-Grade or Premium - all of which are available here. I grumbled to myself about filling the truck with more expensive fuel than I normally do, and quickly forgot about it.

Later, I kept noticing the mileage was consistently at least 5 MPG better than what I was used to. It finally hit me that it might be the real gas is giving better MPG. In the past, I've tried higher octane gas, but it still contained ethanol; and it made no difference in my Hybrid's mileage, vs ethanol gas of lower octane.

Anyone else experience the same thing in their Hybrid Mavericks?
No surprise. 'Real' gasoline is 50% higher energy content fuel than is ethanol.

If he has corn he wouldn't have a combine, that's for the beans. He'd have a picker.
not correct. all modern combines have a grain platform attachment for soybeans and small grains like wheat. and they will also have a separate corn head attachment for harvesting grain corn.

moot point. I own a farm….all combines are diesel…have not made a gas combine in over 50-60 years
That IS the point. They wouldn’t be gasoline (or more precisely, gas/alcohol blend)

tbone289 used the laugh icon on your post because while that's factually true, 10% ethanol gas (E10) will not account for a 5mpg difference in a maverick - hybrid or ecoboost - compared to E0.

This thread is very interesting listening to the members that know about this stuff. Being from Canada I’ve learned a lot about the U. S. on this forum. Now we have Chevron here with 87, 89, 91, and the one all the bikers love, 94 octane. Would the 94 be a little overkill for a 24 EcoBoost? Just curious, as I mostly use 89. Thanks fellow members.

I am also a Canadian, retired and living in Texas. I use 87 Octane in my 24 FX4 and I am averaging 29.3 mpg (US)

I live near @Ozarkbeard and have had frozen gas lines back when all the gas here was no ethanol ~1988. I always put Heet in them after that. I had moved up here from TX and when it happened I had no idea what was wrong with my car. One of the locals told me about Heet and frozen gas lines.

100% a waste of money to burn corn instead of eating it. but I don't make the policies, so I buy ethanol gas flex fuel.
