I got a msg over the info screen that said something like my park brake was "not fully functional" and get it serviced. The next morning, my truck was dead. I tilted the back seat forward to access the battery and a multi-meter shows 7.6 volts. Is it worth trying to charge the battery with a voltage that low? Couple more questions...
1. Is there anything to worry about in replacing the battery? I read about the reset and get that but is there any way to screw some expensive component up by not following an exact procedure?

2. How do you get into the battery jumper terminals under the hood? Per the pic below, I got the cover off and got the light-gray arms flipped up. Does the black plastic core pop open? Can't find a release.

Intermittent battery drain!!!

You got it - and the dealer has a software upgrade for you.

Still under warranty?
May get a new battery too, warranty or not.

Curious - did your last drive end with AC being used?

1 - follow exact procedure is safe, why it's given for user replaceable maintenance item.

2 - Glad you found the correct place - get that manual out or online for steps after the battery replace that NEED to be done. Even if Ford replaces it under warranty or the SSM. Still do 2nd step.

Based on when you joined the forum here I guess you may have a 2022 Hybrid and I'd have the dealer check for the loose battery cable eyelet issue that affected a good number of 2022's (including mine).

Symptom: a suddenly completely dead 12V battery. Mine was showing 3V or so. Jumping the truck fixes it, but you'd have it come back randomly. The problem is a poor solder connection in the eyelet to cable connection where the cable from the 12V battery connects to the main fuse holder under the hood (next to the jump start positive terminal). The fix is replacing that cable with an updated one from Ford.

(see below for details on Ford CSP 22B39)

About replacing the 12V battery:

If you do (and I would!), just make sure you put a Group 140R AGM in there: these work much better in these Maverick Hybrids and you can buy one online for less than $150. You can reset the BMS, but that's not critical as long as you fully charge the battery before installing and then the truck will figure it out by itself.

Here's a link to the AGM I installed 28k miles ago: UPlus Group 140R AGM

Thanks for the help. I don't think I was using A/C. I only us it occasionally when needed and switch it back off after a brief run.

Will follow the procedures.

Is yours under a recall? They just put a brand new battery in mine under the recall for free.

I've had intermittent deep sleep issues but nothing consistent. If it turns out that having the AC on at shutdown was causing a parasitic drain, that would explain a LOT. Looking forward to the recall for THAT, due in a couple months I hope.

My battery is 3 yrs old. I used a jumper to power it up and drove it to the dealer. Since it is the only hiccup I've had since new, I decided to just let the dealer replace the battery and they can see if there is any other software issue. I figured I might have to wait for Discount Auto to order a battery. Maybe not, I don't know how common they are.

When the vehicle is shut off the AC is also turned off. The big question is why Ford is ignoring the fact that the 12v battery is never properly recharged.

Glad you found your answers. No need to open the under hood fuse box. I don't know why they built that fuse box that way, just to be different I suppose.

It should be turned off, but SSM 53801 suggests the air conditioner control module software is an issue. Could be waking something up under certain circumstances and killing the battery while key is off. Had a Five Hundred with a wonky head unit that would wake up the HVAC about 30 mins. after locking the vehicle. New radio, no more dead batteries. That was fun to diagnose:) .

Cheers.

Maybe if dealer is nice, and you mention you do turn off with AC running, and had intermittent Deep sleep so battery got low enough - they'll do the software upgrade.
Shoot - maybe the battery will test just bad enough!

No recall coming, the intermittent drain stayed as an SSM.
