How tall/deep do my lug nuts need to be?

A local Auto Zone had 14 x 1.5 open-end lug nuts in stock, so to satisfy my curiosity of how tall of a lug nut is required, I bough a set, Dorman # 711-606. These have a 3/4" hex size, same as my boat trailer lug nus.

My rig is a '23 w/ FX4 wheels, as you can see, the end of the stud is pretty much flush with the end of the open lug nut. These are 21mm (.826") tall, and provide 12 turns of engagement.

Do a google search for dorman and that part number, which will provide a link to Dorman's website. Once there, enter your vehicle for fitment confirmation:

I believe stock ones are 1.38" and the lug itself is 1.5". I have M14 1.38's on my AlphaEquipt Foxtrots and there is still a quarter inch of threads left. So essentially same as stock. For the stock FX4 ones, I wouldn't go any shorter than 1.38" (But I have no idea about open ended lug nuts).

Good to know. Gonna be shopping for some black 1 piece lug nuts to replace factory 2 piece el cheapos.
