I am considering replacing the factory lug nuts or at least installing a set of locking ones on my XL with steel wheels.

The factory option consist of 4 locking lug nuts, one for each wheel.

I have seen links from some members on the forum showing Gorilla black lug nuts that all 20 lug nuts are locking, not just one for each wheel.

Any pros or cons to the one per wheel as opposed to all locking?

Are you worried someone is going to steal your steelies?

The con to using them for all your lug nuts is you will need to use the special key to remove all of them. If that matters to you.....

Locking lug nuts look like crap if you ask me. Maybe a middle ground would be to order some spline style or other "special" size that in a way acts like a locking lug nut.

For example....

Usually the 20 sets are "spline" nuts that use a more generic socket designs that you can sometimes find on an autoparts store shelf and mechanics often will have them in the shop.

Most "locking" sets are only containing 4 "locking" nuts and use a custom keyed socket. You'll want to be sure to keep track of the key and keycode.

For locking vs spline it just depends on how worried you are your wheels will be stolen. Spline are definitely going to be easier to remove but they are still a good deterrent which is probably all you need for steelies but that's up to you.

I am not massively concerned about the tires disappearing but I wanted a level of deterrence. My neighbor was a cop and his motto was "make someone else's car a better target'".

I think I will just get a set of locks and a second key.
