Regarding the crumple part, I think it might be related to lug nuts on my RV. They are chrome, or more specifically, stainless steel. What they are are steel lug nuts with stainless shell cover over the steel. And they do crumble. The shell covers will split, get loose whenever an impact wrench hits them when removing or installing them. Impact wrench bangs them hard. The proper way to remove or install them is to snug up with an impact wrench, then put torque wrench on them. To remove, get pry bar, loosen first, then spin them off with impact wrench. Avoid the banging.
