I did not like how the Mabett mudflap on the driver rear location was open, so I built an additional piece to keep salt off the back of the left quarter panel. We will see how this works. I made it from a flexible cutting board I found on Amazon that has lines so I could cut it straight. I used two stainless bolts and two nylon lock nuts. I do not know how to add captions with each picture. Sorry.

This is exactly the type of mod I wanted to make on mine. I just had not landed on the material I wanted to use to make it. Let us know how it works out. If good provide a link to the cutting board.

Hadn't noticed shelf on the Mabett flaps before. Is that an old design?

One cutting board for you and two for your wife. Just think how happy she will be.

Now if only we get some snow again. You would think winter was over in February.

I also have Mabett mudflaps and can see the one bolt but, where did you use the second bolt to attach the patch? Also, just curious what size stainless bolts were used? I really like the ingenuity of using a flexible cutting board and thanks for sharing the measurements.

The 2nd bolt is almost directly in the middle of the picture. It is about 1-1 & 1/4 inches from the left side of the shelf in a diagonal direction from the first bolt. The nut is inside that shelf, so the head of the bolt is on the other side of the mudflap. I was going to put 2 bolts inside the shelf, but it appears strong enough to just use one. Time will tell. The bolt is 8/32 x 1/2 inch (phillips pan head). I got them at Menards.

It might all fall apart and do nothing, but what the heck. I usually work with wood, not metal and plastic. The rear quarter panel has a lip and salt will accumulate there, so if I can stop it rusting for 1 year, then I have gained another year.

I appreciate your writeup. Did this today and it was a piece of cake.

Thanks for the detailed pictures. I bought the mat on Amazon - cut and glued two pieces together. Attached with stainless screws and used black duct tape around the edges. Looks sturdy and covers the opening. Thanks again.

Thank you! I did this mod based on your measurements. Used the mat your recommended. Made mine 3 inches wider to try and match other side.

7 months later and mine is still intact. I must have done something right for once.

Just ordered my mudflaps with your post in mind! Did you have to drill into the body for that top bolt?
