Does WD 40 destroy car paint?
In addition to preventing bugs from hitting your vehicle, WD-40 is also a great option for removing already stuck-on bugs, bird droppings, tree sap, and grime. It won't damage your paint; just remember to rinse it off with soap and water afterwards.

Been through car wash twice. They come off with my nail but way too time consuming to do them all that way.
. Is there a safe method that won’t scratch?

Thanks for all the replies. So many options.

going to start with the Turtle Wax bug and tar remover and microfibre and then the lighter fluid if that don’t work.

these suckers got trapped under a snowfall for a few days. that’s why they stuck so bad

I know vinegar removes plenty without any harm and even dish soap is good for cleaning all your waxes off (greasy dishes). But once you do get them stains off, make sure to get good coating of wax/ceramic or graphene of your choice to protect and make it easier to keep clean in the future 😉

If the bug and tar remover does not work you can try an Iron decontaminator such as IronX or similar style from another brand. I would try the least abrasive and move up in steps before going from bug and tar straight to lighter fluid. And do not discount clay baring it can pull a LOT off clear coat.

Try WD-40, but first test it on a spot under the hood (or someplace else) to make sure it does not hurt the paint.

Just curious, was it a walnut tree?

Be sure to let us know what worked best for your situation. Truth be told, I'm on the edge of my seat wondering because this is always a concern. Thanks for posting the problem.

I've used WD40 to get off 3M double sided tape many times, and it has never harmed my paint.

Most waxes would probably take them off . test on one area . then repeat . wash first .

Try Mr. Clean eraser, I use on my truck and it works great and doesn't mess up the paint. Try on a small area first. Good Luck!

Bug and Tar worked. Had to scrub hard with microfibre but it came clean finally.

I'd use an led light to check for any damage.
Sometimes u can marr and etch the paint w harder solvents.
A DA polisher buffer w a jeweling or finish polish would do the trick do start w a very light correcting pad
Say lake country red
Or an adams polishes white
I'd suggest CERAMIC COATING your truck and also chopping the tree down:)
Gl

Just count your blessings that your truck is WHITE:)
