I installed the hood struts this weekend. Hood lined up perfectly opens and closes fine. Woke up this morning its cold out today hood was giving me problems. The struts are cold and don't give that little bit when you pop the latch . It keeps the hood from releasing on the second pull. I have to press the hood down and release it multiple times. I will ne sending it back.

That's one of those mods that sounds like more trouble than it's worth. The factory support strut works fine.
Was easy to install would be great but they had to use cheap struts..

I had / have the same issue. First set of struts were replaced. Hood requires a little finessing to open. I like the idea, wish that it worked better.

I agree with 'Decayed' How often are you going under the hood, maybe once a week to check fluids. It's not like the cargo or seating area that you maybe using everyday. Also, if not working properly now (Oct cold weather) how will they work in February cold minus double digits. Northern U.S. and most of Canada.

If the struts open or at least had zero resistance when in the closed position it would work. When it's warm out they do it works fine. As soon as the temp dropped they don't move enough to clear the second latch when you pull the release.

I saw the struts and decided that they were a risk, What would happen if you left the hood open and the temp dropped. I could see instant problems with the hood bending at the strut attachment point, kinda like the chevy pickups of the early 70's. (yea I'm old)

I had a similar issue with a set last year and ended up sending them back also. The hood is all aluminum and to me it wasn’t worth the risk of damaging the hood.

The struts I had were miss matched in pressurization. One took 85lbs of pressure to close it and the other took 35lbs. This caused the hood to get pushed a little sideways when released on the first pull and therefore would hang on the latch and not open on the second.

It took a lot of testing, adjusting and repositioning before we finally measured the closing pressure. I feel free lucky to have not bent or broke something in the process.

I bought the redline strut kit and had no such issues with mismatched strut tensions. I can see issues in severe cold being a problem. You can add a hood pop spring to the radiator support like some older cars have that pushes against the hood to kind of help it up out of the second latch position.

I see a pattern developing with strut operation in the colder climes. With thin sheet metal, is it worth risking a possible misalignment causing more trouble. As others have stated, diving under the hood once or twice a month is not worth any hassle. The single strut rod on Escapes works just fine.

There are videos about it. A simple spring usually solves the problem.
