The FMC Maverick will be new architecture, not the current platform, that's why it makes sense. Ford can design specifically for EV, vs a retrofit of an existing platform, which would be required for the new '23 Ranger, as it's already designed as an ICE truck.
New architecture required to qualify for govt financial assistance to build new assembly plant, etc, etc.

We really had the transition vehicle in the natural gas ice vehicle. We missed the boat on using this and converting gasoline vehicles to run on natural gas, until an alternate technology was viable. We currently have a 100 year supply of CNG in the ground. 90% cleaner than gasoline, and made in landfill’s daily. Oh yeah, only $1.50 a gallon in ca. I Had a 2012 Honda civic and it had the cleanest engine ever tested by the epa. Also an f150 cng only truck with hov stickers for the commuter lane. Both of these vehicles were dedicated factory cng only. I ended up selling and getting the mav after cng went to $5.28 per gallon in 2021. No good reason for it, just went up 300% overnight. It was fun and a bit of an adventure at the same time.

I knew a few people who had this, but now there are almost no service stations that offer it anymore. Propane conversions were also a big thing for a while, then the pumps disappeared, as prices went up, and full serve gas stations went the way of the dodo. Now the only way to get propane is pre-filled cinders .

Ford hasn't really backpedaled on EV's. 2 new ones coming out in 2025. Ford is #2 in the US in EV sales, but need more than 2 passenger vehicles to increase and maintain that Lead. Hyundai has 4 right now.
