Whoever buys this vehicle at this price should be able to afford the 30% tip to their salesperson. Or they shouldn't be shopping at all.

The triple hamburger exists to make the double seem reasonable.
As long as it has bacon & cheese, I'm in for either!

they learned that while there are plenty who wanted a base truck that there were more than enough that would pony up substantially more and give them a much larger profit margin.
During the dollar burger wars in the 90s, even the upscale fast food places found that they had to have a dollar burger advertised in the window.

Almost noone ordered them, but they didn't come through the door if there was no dollar burger!

And then some places found that they made a killing even with the discount. The McDonalds by my friend's house in the late 80s kept the 49c cheeseburger deal for years after the national campaign ended--they were selling so many fries, shakes, and sodas to go with them that breaking even on the burgers was not a problem. (I suspect that they were even making a little).

And I was sure grateful for those 49c burger in February of '98, with my wife and one twin in the local hospital, and me driving daily 40 miles each way to see the other in the NICU and deliver milk. With noone to feed me, I'd grab a half dozen to eat on the way back (and even that was a strain on my graduate student budget!)

Jeez, and here I thought that the $100 gift certificate to a local pizza place was being generous,,,,,

Test drove 2 of them and I didn;t think it was better. It was cramped for me and it was 15k more. @Surly Old Bill said once you get above 30k there are better for the price. I dare you to find a brand new truck of any make for 31K that is better than a Maverick
splitting hairs.

Always a toss-up for me between the pizza slice or a hotdog. Actually, no; I get the pizze twice as much.

Good thing they threw in that A Plan discount. That made it more affordable. What a bunch of maroons.

It's shocking what an entry level model pickup can be priced at when slapping on just a few extra gadgets and trim. In my mind; if you're paying more than $30k for any trim level of Maverick, you've been had. Once you get above that, there are MANY better equipped, more capable, better materials, better ride pickups to choose from at the same price point.
Not so sure about the better ride, I've tried just about every one in my price range but I do get your point.

I keep forgetting what vehicles cost these days. Just last year I sold an 8 year old F250 4x4 Lariat with 40k miles for over $70k (deceased brother's estate).
I guess I'm basing my expectations on my own frugal, non-enthusiast, practical millionaire mindset. I even balked at the XLT trim package because I didn't think the "extras" over the XL were worth spending an extra $2800.

Sure, if someone WANTS to spend that much money on an entry level model with a higher trim package, go for it. But I think if they want to put on monster-truck tires or something and use it for four wheeling they should just go ahead and buy a Ranger or F-series for $50k instead of a gilded Maverick.

Keep in mind I BOUGHT a Mav, and I am pretty studious about vehicle purchases. At the time of purchase, it was the best thing for the money that met all of my needs for a vehicle acceptably. I would have spent an extra $5k or more for something similar (40+mpg) with a club cab and 6'+ bed, though.
When I was waiting for my Maverick i would walk around the showroom checking out the window stickers. I was shocked at the bottom line. Yeah, that 6' bed is something I've been working around.
