Hello all. I bought my Maverick on Monday, very excited and drove it for 90 minutes (got 47mpg !). Tuesday drove it 5 miles to work and back. Tuesday evening found out that I had another seizure in my sleep meaning I can't drive again for another six months. I have epilepsy and had gone since October 2023 without an episode. My episodes aren't very severe I just stare off into space for a minute or two followed by about 15 minutes of various stages of confusion and after the 15 minutes I'm completely unaware of what just happened. I went from October until now without an episode and with the encouragement of my wife, my doctors, everyone, I started driving again and this week bought the Maverick. It lasted less than 48 hours.

The soonest I can drive it again is December. I don't see the point having it sit in my drive way, my wife won't drive it, she doesnt really like driving and is only comfortable driving her own car, but here I am. I know I'm going to take a loss, I'm just not sure how much of a loss I'm going to take.

Truck details

2024 Maverick Lariat FWD 2.5L Hybrid Exterior Color: Terrain, Interior: Desert Brown Trim
Floor Liners without carpeted mats $135
Power Moon roof $995
Tailgate Lock $40

MSRP 36900

The truck is also tinted and only has 110 miles on it. It's considered used since the dealer still filed the title even though I called them the next day and asked them if they would consider taking it back and doing this as a 48 hour loaner to which they didnt call be back so that answered that...

As far as what I paid,

I paid 35949 before dealer fees, title, etc once all that's added before GA tavt which for me is 7% was 37192, adding the tax, it ws 39795 out the door all said and done.

What recommendations does everyone have for me? Any suggestions on what I should consider as my floor on offers?

I hope your health improves. On occasion I receive emails from my Ford dealer indicating they would like to buy my Maverick which they sold me over two years ago. Perhaps you could look into that.

Thanks Jim, I think there is hope it just takes time finding which combination of medications work for me, it really is just trial and error at this point. I think the worst part of all of this for me was that I got so excited that it was a milestone and finally a breakthrough only to find out that the homerun I hit didn't count because someone called timeout, but since we were out of timeouts the inning is over. Maybe even worse is that I like the truck way more than I expected to.

I think you might not be in as bad a shape as you fear. Yeah, you will most likely take a financial hit if you bail immediately, but my dealer in SC is still attempting a $995 ADM even on his Ecoboost inventory stock. See what Carvana and others like them offer. A hybrid should still command a premium price for a very low mileage one. Then again, you may be able to keep it long enough to work out your health situation to resolution without that severe a hit if you decide to keep it a while as your mileage will still be low. Just make sure to put the 12v battery on a maintainer.

I hope they can find a cocktail that will keep your seizures from coming back. I would seriously consider a fully self-driving Tesla for everyone's safety.

I say keep it. I waited 10 months for mine, so December doesn't seem so bad. If you still can't drive it by then, you could always sell it. It's such a great little truck and I love it every time I drive mine. Good luck with everything. :like:

If you can hold on to it, by all means do so...
As stated... You can sell it later..

I appreciate everyone's advice and recommendations. One issue with hanging on to it is if I continue to seizure, I may never drive again. At least my seizures are minor compared to some people with epilepsy as I do not have the type where I fall or shake, it's more like I just stare off into space and day dream for a few minutes, which, isn't ideal while driving...

I've contacted the GM of the dealership and they will be calling me back Monday and see what they can do, even if they can't or don't want to do anything I think a courtesy phone call would be nice since they went on and on about how they take care of their customers but we will see.

One awesome thing for the future. Jim Farley this week was promising hands off, eyes off driving inside two years. As somebody getting older, that is a promising thing. Full self driving cars probably by the end of the decade. I'm assuming Farley is on the optimistic side.

Good luck - I hope it all works out for you. I have E also but have been well controlled for 12+ years (knock on wood), but this is still a fear. Probably never going off the meds!

I also dealt with it. Sorry to hear. I hope you can find the right balance of meds that work for you. only you know your financial situation but I would keep the mavy if you can afford. Got your hands on a great truck for a great price. Maybe you have health issues but one day you will get your license back and you’ll need something to drive. I say keep it if you can. You mention possibly having another seizure. I say cross that bridge when you get there. Good luck.

CarMax, Carvana, etc can be quick (1-2 hours) and easy with little hassle. I used CarMax on my 23 Tremor with 875 miles. Hybrid should bring closer to MSRP due to mpg. They are of course buying pretty close to wholesale. You could check out Carmigo, a auto auction site mainly for dealers which requires you to take pictures , etc. Their fee is due only if vehicle is sold and buyer will pickup car from your location. Gets your truck in front of more dealers than you would ever drive to and maybe you have exactly what they need for a buyer. You can put minimum price on it.
On your health situation, I would suggest, if you are not currently seeing one, a Registered Dietitian who can review your, illnesses, medications along with your current diet. Their can be quite a few things that should or should not be eaten depending.... An RD will have at least one post graduate degree and 5 or more years experience depending on the state of Registration. You can of course keep a diary of your meals and activities to review when you have an episode. (My blood pressure meds prevent me from even looking at grapefruit).

Best wishes on finding the correct medications to control the seizures. That is still a bit of a black art but perseverance will pay off.
Kudos for having enough sense to protect yourself and others by staying off the road! Alas, many others in your situation do not.

Very sorry to hear about your health issues. I vote for you to keep the truck and to sweet talk wifey into driving it at least around the neighborhood, from time to time, to keep the rust off the rotors.

They'll figure out the right meds for you and then you can enjoy that awesome truck. (y)
