I went to plug in my scanner and no joy. The plug fit unusually tight and no power. All the pins are straight and I confirmed it works on another car to be sure. I’m thinking of going to Autozone but I’m kind of scared they will break something. Anyone know what’s going on?
@Senior Master Ford Guy ?
With your recent problems with the aftermarket alarm system that was installed there may be a fuse blown that powers the DLC/OBD2 connector itself. Although the connector is part of the "gateway module" that provides communication amongst modules, the DLC has it's own power, which enables scan tools to be powered up when plugged in. Check fuse #22(7.5 amp) in the BCM(Body Control Module) under the passenger side of dash, and also fuse #186 in the BJB(Battery Junction Box) under the hood.

Thanks!
I did check all the fuses under the pass side dash but none under the hood.

I didn't know you had an alarm system installed. Was it working before the alarm system was installed?

no idea, it was installed by the dealer I bought the truck from. I told them to remove it but they didn't.

Well, stupid question....where are the fuses under the hood? I see a box with a cover, removed the cover and all there is are two large connectors. Do I have to take it apart?
Like an Escape BJB:

Any idea if the dealer installed an OEM one, or is it a sort of "tracker" style aftermarket one they can use to disable your vehicle in the event you miss a payment? Lots of shady dealers doing this and really screwing things up in the process, not to mention the negative repercussions to the rest of that contract...

Another better idea from the folks that brought us the Edsel, the fuses are hidden on the underside of that box. remove the 2 connectors on top, check for/there might be a wire or wire connector attached to the outside of the box that needs removed, and then there should be some clips to release to remove the box and flip upside down to see fuses. Just make sure the box you are going after has no orange coated wire harnesses going to it, that's high voltage and you are looking for the low/12 volt fuse box.

This was working before the alarm was removed wasn't it? Did the dealership retrieve codes from it? I would have them check it , or maybe you should try a different scan tool first before digging too far in to it.

I'm not sure what it is, they told me there was an alarm on it and it will cost me $600. I said no thanks, remove it. Well they did not and it caused a draw that killed my battery overnight. A different dealer ended up disconnecting it under warranty and now the draw is gone.
