Harsh 2-3 shift in Lobo mode.

Curious if anybody else has experienced this in their Lobo.

In Lobo mode, on a WOT acceleration run, the 1-2 shift is fine but the 2-3 shift is very harsh. It feels like the ECU is pulling a bunch of throttle right before the gear change, causing the truck to jerk. If you've ever accidentally clipped the brake pedal with the side of your foot while shifting a manual transmission car- that's what it feels like.

It does not do this in normal mode (of course, WOT shifts in normal mode are softer, anyway). I have not tried this yet in sport mode.

I see yours is a '25. How many miles are on it? Have you brought this up to a dealer?

Just over 2300, it gets parked in the winter. Haven't mentioned it to the dealer. Only does it in Lobo mode when I flat out floor it, pretty sure it's just pulling power at redline. Once tuning is available hopefully they can adjust that.

I get a rough shift from 2-3 when using the paddle shifters in Sport Mode - but only in the first mile or so. Not at WOT, just a typical shift pulling out onto the highway near my house.

I notice it in Sport Mode “manual” because that is the mode I always drive in. It probably happens in other modes too to an extent.

Since it only happens early in a drive, I consider it a normal “warm up” effect and drive easy for the first few miles…

Never experienced it in Sport or Lobo modes while giving “her the beans” WOT.

I think both the “Quick Shift” 7 speed and the normal 8 speed have “quirks” that you learn and adapt to?

It is supposed to hold gears longer in lobo so I am assuming at WOT it feels weird on the shifts since its hesitating and holding longer to each gear.

So last weekend, I installed a ScanGauge 3 on my '24 Tremor, in 3-4 days of running around, I've never seen 2nd gear indicated. It jumps right from 1st to 3rd, both up-shifting and down-shifting. Even in Tow/Haul mode.

You’re shifting like a Lobo ?

That said…my Lobo often shifts automatically when I get to about 9mph even though I’m in Manual mode & did not use the paddle. Barely even feel that shift.

It feels like it is using 1st & 2nd then skipping next into 4th. My gear display shows 1 then 2 then 3.

I’ve never seen 7 on my display I let the computer shift at that speed. Gear will display only when in manual mode using paddles…

My 8 speed seems to hesitate on the 1st to 2nd or 3-4 shift when it's cold outside and engine is cold.

The LOBO takes the 8-speed auto and eliminates the 2nd gear. Making it a 7 speed, so you are going from 1st to 3rd gear. The 1st to 2nd gear is very close to the same gearing.

The son has a 2024 Tremor and a 2025 Lobo, and he said you can notice the difference in the morning when it is still cold.

I only experience this harshness at WOT acceleration in Lobo mode on the 2-3 shift. It doesn't happen on the 1-2 shift or the 3-4 shift. I retested yesterday and verified it doesn't happen on any shift in normal or sport mode.

This harsh shift point happens on several (most?) of our Lobos - there have been previous posts on this “quirk”.

Maybe it is more a TCM “default” than a TCM “learn” if that makes sense?

Although it happens to you at WOT in Lobo Mode and happens to me in Sport when cold - maybe the TCU is learning. Learning to aggravate us.

correct. physically, the transmissions are the same. look on parts.ford.com at a Lobo vin vs a regular ecoboost awd vin and you'll get the same transmission assembly.

This sent me down a rabbit hole.

Bizarrely, when I put my Lobo VIN in, the website doesn't refer to it as a Lobo. In fact, I have yet to find any parts listing that mentions Lobo. Some of them mention "Sport", "Sport 2", "Super Sport", "HD" or "with handling suspension". Makes me wonder if engineering named these parts before they knew what they were going to call the Lobo. LOL.

The transmission listing (PZ1Z7000K) is also very confusing. It specifically states:

Not For (Trailer Towing, Trailer Tow.).

... Even though all Lobos come with the 2K tow package. Dig a little deeper though, and the Interactive Parts Diagram shows a second transmission part number, PZ6Z7000C, that states "Towing Pack 1". So maybe that's the right one? Literally none of the transmission listings I've been able to find even mention 7 speed. Very confusing.
