Agree 1000%. Also, this is a product that Ford no longer owns. How manufacturers can get away with making unannounced changes with zero notification to the owner is kind of mind bending. PCs don't do this, cellphones don't do this, even 3D printers don't do this.

1. Read the small print in the contract. 2. Disable wifi and updates in the telematics unit. 3. Unplug all the wire harnesses to the telematics unit if 2 fails.

Yes, there actually is a hidden workaround to see them. You can catch the raw data before it hits your screen by using a browser on a computer.

I'd be curious what this even means too.

You can turn off automatic updates altogether through the app or on the center screen. Then you would just rely on getting the updates when you go in for dealer services.

I did consider doing this, but I mistakenly thought that there would be a notification somewhere to let me know when one occurs. Clearly that's not the case!

I did have automatic updates turned off, but ended up turning them back on a couple months ago because I had FOMO. Same reason I haven't (yet) pulled the telematics fuse. I'm not opposed to updates, I would just like to know what they are, when they're available, and have the choice to download them or not.

Same thing can happen, if you live in an association. Don't pay your association dues. The association can sell force of foreclosure and sell your property.

If the telematics unit has an internal battery pulling the fuse won't disable it.

I think the general consensus is that the TCU does not have an internal battery.
