I just bought Rough Country Hard tri fold cover, and I'm concern if gonna affect millage overall driving. This is not that light 70lb, I had to drag after delivery to my garage. What you guys think about.

I suspect that the reduction in drag that your tri-fold gives you will somewhat offset the extra 70lbs of weight you're carrying, depending on your driving habits. Extra weight negatively affects slower, stop-and-go efficiency more than faster steady-state driving, and the reduction in drag will improve efficiency more in faster steady-state driving.

I would bet that you'll not notice a substantial difference with it on or off.

Mav weighs about 3500 lbs - your 70 lb tri fold is 2 percent increase, using EPA estimates that decrease your mileage by about 1-2 percent. 1-2 percent if you usually get 40 mpg means theoretically you'll get a reduction of .4-.8 mpg. At 4 bucks a gallon that means you'll be using a whopping (max) 8 cents more a gallon or a reduction down to 39.2- 39.6 mpg. It's totally inconsequential.

Thx on your scientific explanation.

It will possibly increase your mileage from less drag and turbulence.

Less drag should offset and actually should get better mileage.i have a 7 passenger dodge caravan, when we take a trip with seven people in,an extra 1000 pounds at least,I don't notice a drop in mileage, negligible at best.

If you bought the rough country trifold aluminum cover I can guarantee you it's lightweight it doesn't weigh anywhere near 70 lb maybe 30 tops.

I've taken it off and on multiple times myself with ease it's not at all heavy.

Subtract the above ☝ from mileage
Then
Add the the below 👇 to mileage

Equals No change to mileage maybe even an increase if the weight of the cover is less.👍

No Issue, I was able to 60 mpg with a tri fold bed cover from the factory on my 2022 FE. here in Tucson last month.

I just got home from a 29 mile trip with my 24 Lariat hybrid driving city and highway miles between 30 and 50 mph with a hard top bed cover and ended up with 56mpg in ECO setting. I'm delighted.

There is a UTube video where these guys did the test they drove X amount of miles with and without don't remember all the numbers, it was very cool even measured the wind speed they got something like 5% better gas mileage with the cover because less drag. Don't hold me to the numbers but was slightly better with the cover on highway driving.
