I handbuilt a box with similar dimensions about 6-12 months before Ground Shaker released their box. It's a hair under 0.4ft3 which is small but enough for an Alpine R2 W8 D2 sub wired 1 ohm mono to a Kicker Key 500.1. (This combo is incredible, btw. Yes it's over-powered, but I'm hundreds of hours in and no issues.) Ground Shaker is listed at 0.45ft3 which is enough for many high performance 8s but there are some very high end woofers that need much more volume and mounting depth... and more power.

If you want a 10 though, Ground Shaker's 0.45ft3 becomes more limiting. Sound Decisions boxes are 0.6ft3 per side which would help a lot, and they look better. Here's a FB post about them.

So, really, it depends on your budget and preferences.

I wished I had seen that box before I got this one. I already have this installed and not happy with the sub. Just looking at other options of what people have.

Its a cheap NVX sub and amp.
ah. well, $474 gets you my set up and if you're not happy with it I'd be pretty surprised.

if that isn't in the cards then get the amp because it's on sale and having a powerful amp with dsp is critical. and then it looks like a kicker compR 8" dual 2ohm is $80, so that brings the total down near $300. (this would be overpowered also, but you could run the dual 4 ohm instead if you wanted, also $80.)

I have the same boxes. My subs are Kickers CompR Series 8" They're on sale for $80 each. The recommended cu. Ft is, 0.4-1.8 cu. Ft.

Do you plan on replacing the stock door speakers? If so I'd get a 4 channel amp for the doors, tweeters and c-pillar speakers and a separate mono amp for the subs...that is if you're running dual subs. If not then get a 5 channel amp.

Or just do what you have planned ;)

I added the 8 inch box with the kicker sub. Already had a Puzu dsp and an Alpine amp. I probably would suggest using the extra money on better door speakers and such as this sub hits hard and can handle more than the rating easily. I dont see almost $200 more added benefit from a better subwoofer especially considering it can only do so much in the small box anyway.

I've got two JL 10TW1-4s in my Ground Shakers, they're perfectly suited for that box.

I copied the Ground Shaker design and built my own, and am using a Rockford Punch P3SD2-10. The "SD" stands for shallow depth; the regular Punch 10" (like most 10") won't fit.

yes, that's the main reason I have a high performance 8", because I didn't want a shallow 10" based on power, excursion, and honestly it would be very close to the edge of the box I designed. people did custom fabricate boxes like this before groundshaker released theirs.

I made mine a uniform rectangle because I lack the carpentry skills to easily make a notched shape and especially not non-90 degree flat corners, and I didn't feel like spending 8 hours on it.

so, anyway, my real point is that if someone wants a box that is the max size for a uniform rectangle that fits with the tub removed, it's here in this post. caution reading that whole thread, though. I would probably do things differently now than I did then, so if you are reading that >2 year old post as a guide, take it with a grain of salt.
