I've owned several Fords over the years starting with a '54 Crestliner Starliner. I now have a '25 Maverick Lariat. My grump complaint is why is Ford nickle & dime us over the GPS and other things. After spending almost $40K for the truck now one year later they want $80 a year to make my GPS work :(

Don't pay them. You have alternatives.

It appears that many companies are using subscriptions as another revenue stream.

All manufacturers I have looked at try to ding you for these subscription fees, and some are eliminating our ability to link our phones to our trucks (Chevy, Tesla to name a few).

Ford isnt too bad in my books as the fee isn't as bad as it could be to keep the maps up to date.

We use our phones for Waze or Google maps but I do have a Garmin GPS (has a lifetime subscription) as a backup, especially on a road trip..

And yes, I have to have a hard copy map book in our vehicles as nothing beats a map for situational awareness when not in familiar areas...and I do love a good map.

We did update the GPS in our camper van when we got it and that was about 120.00 CAD, so in the ballpark for the Ford cost I imagine. We will get it updated this year again I imagine.

I think you can still use the map in the truck, but it will slowly go out of date, so only get it updated every 2 or 3 years.

Edit...you can look at the map, but can not set destinations or search. A subscription is needed for the Ford map.

Have a good one,

Andy

Do, my Mav came with a 7yr connectivity package subscription (off the lot), but the navigation hasn’t activated, yet.

anyone know how long it takes for it to activate?

Yup, my 2022 Tucson came with a 3yr remote start subscription.
After that it is $20/months.

You still have the number for the sales person you dealt with, right? So give them a call!

Exactly, you need to confirm before buying a new vehicle what is being charged for as a subscription.

Ford doesn't charge for silly stuff like that...so far. And I would dump them in a heartbeat if they start.

Ford is terrible for the features you get for the price.

Why? Because enough people don't care enough for Ford to care.

You're not fighting Ford so much as Ford customers.

Good luck.

Not only must one pay but the maps will always be a day late and a dollar short. Google, Waze and a few more, pick your poison. All very good.

Your GPS will still work. The $80 is to update the map,

Yeah, I don't have a problem with this as Ford has to continually provide updates and the infrastructure to run that.
What I DO have a problem with is companies like BMW (trying) to charge subscription fees for things you've already paid for like heated seats. Screw them.

Now I have to go check mine, to confirm!

Andy

Edit

I can now confirm that the map comes up in my Lariat, but no searching or setting destinations with the Ford map as that required re-activation.

There, I consider this query sorted out!
