Aside from the apparently common glitches that our trucks have been experiencing, the one item I have been trying to get a handle on, is some form of reliable navigation. I have had numerous instances of Apple Carplay either glitching out or the truck system simply losing connection, usually when it is particularly important. With that in mind, I have been running the built in navigation in my Lariat, Sync 3 I believe. Aside from the maps being out of date, it seemed more reliable, until yesterday. I found an apparent GPS failure where the letters appeared in the corner of the screen with a bar drawn across the letters, and the map stayed on the screen but it did not follow my actual location, eventually being 50 miles off. I tried to do a system reset while on the move but it would not reset as I have done before. It refused to reset until I parked the truck and then resumed normal operation after the reboot.
I "think" I have done the reboot on the move but I may be mistaken about that. Is this also a common failure? Sync 3 has been around for 8 years, so it should be well vetted or is it just the quirky nature of the Maverick systems? I bought this vehicle specifically for summer use and travel but aside from my old Garmin, I have concerns about a nav system that actually works, all of the time. Is this common? I love the truck, even with some of its other quirks.

I have reset mine twice on the move using power/fast forward. Screwy NAV both times. I have a Garmin under the back seat. The new toys are nice, but I also want reliable. Another reason that my RAV4 is in the drive way. I don't expect the Ford to outlive it.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was pretty sure I have rebooted on the move but it wouldn't do so this time. I am loathe to have any of the updates and recalls done as of this time, but maybe some of this would be cured? I know each of the different styles of navigation, cell phone or satellite, have strengths and weaknesses but this is nuts. I have never had this sort of failure from a couple of different Garmins over 25 years, but it is stand alone and not dependent on another system to work. Disappointing so far.

The GPS glitch yesterday might have been due to the solar flares. Have been hearing several people have issues especially anything with satellites involved.

If you want to use your phone, make sure you're using an OEM cable or known quality cable like ANKER. Use the shortest cable possible. Go into your Infotainment system and delete any stored connections between it and your phone. Also remove stored connections(s) stored in your phone. Reboot both truck & phone.

Also, check in the Infotainment system for updates. You can download/install those yourself.

Yep on possible satellite problem. Yesterday was a biggie flare day. Satellite may have been shut down during the peak to prevent being zapped.

Several months ago I was driving across north Georgia with the on-board GPS, my iPhone Google maps, and my Garmin running. Just as I needed some direction at an upcoming intersection all three stopped working. It was clearly the GPS signal. They all started working again after about 15-20 minutes. This was well before the recent solar activity.
