This package has a patch cord to use with a powered mirror. However, NO trim level of Maverick has a powered mirror!

My wife asked about the wires and the manufacturer responded only saying to use the long cord (included) and plug into the OBD II port if no powered mirror. The Ford Maverick manual specifically warns AGAINST plugging items into the OBD II port.

There is power nearby in the Ford plugs above the mirror and a patch cord could easily be made to use between the Ford Image Processing module, connector C9039, or the interior dome lights, connector C928, but there is no guidance as to the wiring requirements of the camera.

The camera has 3 wires:

A Black wire (which I know is ground), but also a yellow wire and a red wire. There is no information in the manual as to what these other 2 wires require. If the manufacturer would respond as to the requirements of these 2 wires, it would make the camera usable. I suspect the RED wire needs a continuous 12 volts and possibly the YELLOW wire needs 12 volts that is switched on with the ignition, but I would like confirmation before attempting to make a usable patch cord. Until the manufacturer identifies what these wires need, the camera is unusable on a Ford Maverick.

I will be happy to edit this review if the manufacturer can provide the needed information to make the camera work on a Maverick. The kit should actually include a patch cord for one of the two existing connectors, instead of one for a non-existent powered mirror.

I have an old school Garmin that plugs into a USB port, or a 12v - USB adapter. Well, it's not THAT old school, but it's kind of basic in that regard. Have not installed it in the Maverick yet, but I had it in my Escape for a year or so. In the case of the maverick, I intend to actually hide the wire behind the trim.

It'll take some studying on my part to see if I can hard-wire it in somehow. I'm sure there's a way.

Plugged mine into the inside fuse box and the rear camera plugged into the front camera. Same with my mirror. Pretty easy runs. They came with long enough wiring to reach the fuse panel. My OBD II port already has my scangauge II that I use for towing.

I'm with you. For several reasons, I really like having a dedicated GPS instead of using my phone. I recently got a Garmin Drive 53 (w/o traffic for simplicity) and have been running it temporarily thru a USB cable plugged into a 12V adapter in the lighter jack. Older Nuvi 50-series units need a "red band" USB cable from 3BRPowersports to do this. I think I will eventually wire it to the back side of this circuit since it does eventually shut off on its own, but will also add a power switch to give me the control I want. I'm really happy with RAM mounts for mechanical support.

Thank you for the power cord information.
As a Garmin user. I wondered why I couldn't just plug it into a USB port.
👍

The older Garmin Nuvi 50-series GPS units (I had several) used a 5th pin on the standard mini-USB connector as a sense lead to tell the unit whether it was plugged into a computer (for data downloads) or the factory-supplied 12V adapter (for use in vehicle). The concept was called "OTG" (On-the-Go) and was used in various ways by different USB devices. This "ID" pin is grounded in the micro-A plug and floating in the micro-B plug, but still implemented in the mini-USB plug used by Garmin GPS units. Garmin used an 18K resistor from that sense pin to GND, and the Red Band cables sold by 3BRPowersports just did the same. However, since the Nuvi units are fading from use, the Red Band cables are too. I think they may still be available, but for how long?

This is the FitCamX style camera (I have one) -- looks like a couple companies are using similar or the same. Been really happy with mine as well.

Ive only used FitcamX for my dash cams of late and they have performed flawlessly. I wired mine up to the OBD port and had NO issues with it no matter what the manual says. after I traded in my Maverick with the cam still attached the dealer said it was a sale point when it was sold to another buyer.

Black: ground
Red: 12V battery (always on)
Yellow: Accessory (active when ignition is on probably for a parking mode).
