GF wants me to change the color on my order

OK. I told my GF about my order (XL Hybrid Atlas Blue, no options). She doesn’t think we need a truck. She wants me to change my order to Area 51. It may make the difference between her allowing me to get the truck or not. I have a scheduled production date of 12/19. Take the chance to tell the dealer I want to change the color? What impact do you think this would make on production happening? I don’t really need another vehicle, but I want a little truck.

Cautionary Tale:
My original reservation stipulated Alto Blue. However, since I retired 10-years ago, I sought 'buy-in' (literally) from my still working wife ... "Area 51?" sure Dear, I'll change the order!
Upshot:
Wife drives the Maverick 7-days a week, and I'm stuck with that stinking Mercedes!

FWIW, wife doesn’t like the color of MY truck. Oh well, we didn’t “need it” either.

IMHO, if someone wants you to get a particular item/color, tell them to buy it for you. If someone tells you and you are dumb enough to do it, then you deserve everything you get. Geez

If OP is serious enough with GF to say she is almost a wife, I assume that means engagement is possible in not distant future.

Should have talked with her before it got so far down the road as being scheduled. I showed my wife the picture of what I was ordering and the features ahead of order. It's my truck but we typically drive my vehicle so input is good. She just said looks great because ultimately she knows me, I know her, and we both want the other happy so it's pretty easy.

But sounds like the GF is playing games if you have to pick her color in order for her to agree to a purchase that "wasn't needed". It's either a good purchase, or not needed. Color doesn't factor in function. Plus you aren't engaged, much less married, so it really isn't a joint decision. But if you want her to ride in it, better make sure she's happy with it. And if you don't want to be trading it in once you do get married, that goes double.

Key take away, better communication both ways. Talk before committing to any major lifestyle decision (moving, change of job, major purchase, etc.) if you want a good long term relationship. And your GF is right one one thing. Velocity Blue and now Atlas Blue are ugly. Now Alto Blue is the best color.

If she does not want you to get the truck, she will never be happy with it. Get what you want. There are plenty of opportunities to do stuff she wants.

Heres a little bit more to give you an idea. In 1964 my father wanted a barracuda when they came out. My mom already was driving a 3 year old station wagon, so this would be his car for work. He told me it was going to be white exterior, red interior 273 Commando V8 with 4 barrel carb, 4 speed on the floor, and disc brakes. (Yes disc brakes were optional in 1964) My grandmother and grandfather (his inlaws) said what do you want that for. He never bought it. He said he always regretted that decision, and made up his mind to never ever let anybody tell him what he should or shouldn't buy. He has since through his lifetime had lots of different cars and trucks. He got me started in the antique car hobby. Pops just passed away last december at 84 years old. His last car was a 1930 ford rumble seat coupe. Now I'm teaching my 10 year old son the joys of antique cars. My point is buy what's gonna make you happy and in the color you want. If your around a woman thats controlling you now, it wont get any better after your married. And this advice is also for any single or engaged woman on here reading this who has a controlling man in their life. It doesnt get any better when your married. A leopard doesnt change its spots.

I have no idea what the OP's general situation is so I will give this as general advice not directed at him.

Don't combine finances with someone you are not married to. I don't care if you live together, have been together for decades, etc. Don't buy a house them, a car, etc. With separate finances it isn't necessary to get permission from a significant other to make a purchase like a car. If a relationship is so serious that you need to combine money, then you also need to be married. Marriage offers legal protections that significant otherhood does not.

To get back to the original question, I think you can change the color up until it is in the booth. It just depends on whether your dealer wants to fool with it.

I got a notification of a VIN number in Early July. A week later my dealer called to also tell me. At that point I asked if we could change the color and he said, "let's see". And he went in and did it. Then a few weeks later we got an email with an early Sept. build date.
