Lock is broken on Miata glovebox- but I never lock the doors anyway so nothing valuable goes in there. (Insurance and registration are in a pocket in the always-locked trunk.)

This is correct for the hybrid. For the ecoboost it's my understanding that it's impossible to syphon fuel out of the tank due to some kind of restriction. I'd rather have it easily opened than to have someone pry it open and damage it and the paint.
Over the years cars have become siphon resistant. Kids today will never experience the burn of getting gas in their mouth when they got the timing wrong when siphoning gas out of their parent's car to put in the lawn mower to mow the lawn(or in their go cart or their own car😅)

Unfortunately they do. Personally, I'd rather that they were still able to steal by siphoning. Gas tanks are very expensive.

I was about to say that I'd rather have them siphon it than punch a hole. I hear it has become more common on trucks and SUV'S because of the extra ground clearance.

It has. There was a business in our area a few years ago that had holes punched in the tanks of several vehicles in their fleet Econoline vans . Crooks make life difficult for everyone.

OK... I can understand saving a couple of bucks with the non-locking gas door. But no lock on the glove box? That bugs me.
After having had a car broken into and the glove box pried open with a crowbar I'm fine without a locking glove box.
They destroyed a mint condition, near unobtainable dashboard (and glovebox door) to steal a $10 pair of sunglasses and $20 in emergency gas money. $1400 in parts whereas if it wasn't locked I'd be out $30

I've started leaving my glove boxes unlocked for this reason and their possible failure. Just keep nothing of value in them. I have been fortunate not to get one broken into, but did have the plastic release mechanism fail on one and had to remove it from it's hinges to get in and then repair/replaced broken parts.

As a past and present owner of soft topped convertibles. I learned long ago to leave the door's unlocked and do not leave anything of value in the car including the glove compartment. Documents with our name and address on them, I always kept in the trunk under the trunk mat. I just couldn't justify locking the car and having somebody slice $1,000 soft top open so they could look around for something of value in the car.

I'm lucky in that I live in a very rural area of upstate NY and incidents like you folks mentioned are very rare. I'm 64 and have never had anything stolen from a vehicle. I'd like a locking glovebox to keep children or maybe even curious passengers from accessing the contents.

In my 45+ years of driving. I had a break in twice, AT WORK! Of All things (stolen radios and a jack I left out in the second one.) 😒
Got a tip after the last one to buy a few black bath towels. Used them to cover an item that I had to have. They matched the carpeting/rubber flooring pretty well.. 🤔

I locked my new Maverick with a keyfob. The gas door isn't locked. Is that normal or it should be locked?
Why do you want to lock it? The capless filler cannot be siphoned, so nobody is stealing your fuel. A lock is like a cap - one more thing to malfunction in the snow.
Having said that, the Hybrid has a locking door, since the tank is pressurized to stop fuel degradation due to its much lower fuel usage. It has an electrical lock on the fuel door that also releases the tank pressure when you open it.
