This clip came out after removing the gas nozzle at Costco. There seems to be two of them, one on each side. How how can this be reinserted? Thanks.

Sure a piece didn't break off already from that piece?
The color of that edge facing up sure appears like there used to be more to it.
Which has now gone down the filler tube perhaps.

Hopefully this repair falls under bumper to bumper.
Because potentially to get that smaller piece out...

I don't understand why that's there actually - sure appears it could catch the nozzle on each insertion.
Wondering if it's something to be removed before delivery.

Dang, I do not know but this sure looks like something that would happen to me.😉 I am betting you will get a meaningful reply within ten responses. Hope so!

Sorry to change the subject, but I am picking up a
Ruby Red in couple of weeks. What color are your tailgate letters? Thanks!

A gas cap would cost about 15 bucks, to fix the ones on your maverick will set you 195.

I looked at it this morning. I didn't see a way to reinstall the little black clip/hook. It would really be a pain trying to reinstall it and hold the spring tension flap open.
Sorry.

It seems a lot of Manufacturers are going the route of capless gas tanks.
*Ford:
Ford pioneered capless fuel fillers with their "Easy Fuel" system, starting in 2009.
Many Ford models, including the Mustang, Escape, Explorer, and F-150, are equipped with capless fuel systems.

General Motors (GM):
GM also offers capless fuel fillers on a wide range of vehicles, including Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac models.
Examples include the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Blazer, Malibu, and GMC Sierra.
A GM Authority article mentions 26 GM vehicles with capless fuel fill systems, including the Blazer, Equinox, Corvette, Camaro, Silverado, and Sierra.

Honda and Acura:
Honda and Acura models also feature capless fuel systems.
Examples include the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, and Acura Integra, MDX, and RDX.
Other Brands:
While less common, some Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Cadillac XTS models also utilize capless fuel fillers

If you were to get 15 $ or 195 $ to reinstall something which 1 would you go with?

If it’s a straight forward fix to replace then I would do it. Just need the right part and instructions somewhere. Sure the service at the dealer can do it but it’s a big waste of time to take the car in for something that I can handle. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Depends. $15 for something I'll lose/break 20 times before the $195 part fails, or $15 for something that will last at least half as long as the $195 part? What other features does the $195 part unlock?

My washing machine can be fixed with a $15 part to replace a drain pump, but it takes special tools and risk of ruining the gasket (several hundred dollars to replace) to disassemble/reassemble it to swap that part. I'd be thrilled with a more expensive but simpler solution, but I still paid a professional over a hundred bucks to swap it for me, because if they ruined it they would be on the hook to fix it.

Every auto I've owned before my maverick had a plastic gas cap, if it breaks 20 bucks to reinstall.

So go buy a truck with a $20 gas cap - who is stopping you?

There was a time when every auto I'd ever driven (okay, all three of them) was manual transmission, and how they're almost impossible to find. Things change.

I believe the hybrid, at least, has a pressurized fuel system which required at least some of the changes. That happens - the old tech is replaced with new tech, which is invariably more expensive to replace.

Not meaning to hijack a thread, but....

If you break a "freon" line on a refrigerator, you need to throw away the refrigerator in many new ones.

This should fall under emissions warranty.

OP - this is route if you can't put it back.

OP,
After seeing the pic that it is supposed to be there (sure looks flimsy for taking a hit from the metal nozzle), it sure appears you could place it back.

My comment on area that appears to have a break off, can't be - that's a wear point, can't stick out further.

Now the back side still could have a broken off piece that pops in - but sure appears you merely need to slide the side posts into a slot, and push the bottom bend around the edge of the white plastic.
The hook appears to let that next flap push down, or come back up and be held in place.
