What is this on the engine facing side of the skid plate? I got oil underneath and need to get it cleaned up. Does it need to to back on?

Mostly for Heat reflection. If you never park in tall grass/weeds/debris, you're probably ok without it. But why wouldn't you just clip it back on?

Please tell me the back side of that skid plate is galvanized and not bare metal. :ROFLMAO:

I've been wary of climbing down there to look at it, but with my AC running these days I've noticed a good amount of condensation dripping out from under my truck. The trouble is, it drips in different places depending on the pitch of the parking lot, driveway, road that I'm parked on, and my fear is that all that moisture is collecting on top of the skid plate and then rolling around up there until it finds its way out.

A) if that is bare metal, depending what it is, will this be a rust issue?
B) is that heat blanket just soaking up that water all the time? (see previous rust concern, and add to that concerns with moisture being trapped against all the mechanical components under the engine compartment which may rust over prolonged exposure like that)

...I should probably take a look under there...

Is that heat blanket on yours totally saturated with whatever oil spilled onto it?

1) It improves the aerodynamics under the vehicle, improving your mileage slightly
2) It keeps the road/dirt crap off the engine and tranny
3) It keeps some heat in, reducing your restart warmup time
4) It (mostly) keeps the rocks from destroying your drivetrain

Mine has zero rust on it after 1.5 years of beating the crap out of my truck in the PNW. Heat blanket is not porous from what I can tell. I have no concerns with moisture being trapped.

Yeah mine has 32k miles on it since I got it in November of 21, and apart from the paint chips everywhere that we all complain about, it still looks great and I haven't seen rust. I haven't dug into it enough to know what parts are aluminum and such

Glad to hear that heat shield isn't absorbant!

I'm wondering ...... should be able to put the metal skid plate on my non-FX4 ecoboost. Might have to see what it would cost if I can find a part number.

Got that all situated. Anyone have the part number for the torx screw and nuts? Or know what I need to search for a replacement.

Why hasn’t anyone asked where the oil is coming from?

Take it to the parts dept at your dealer, explaining exactly where it came from on their exploded assembly drawing. They will figure out what the number is, whether it has been superseded by a different number, and have it in stock.
