You are going to get razzed regardless for not buying a "real" truck.

You can’t fix stupid. There’s no tool or magic pillAnd that's how young women roll their Broncos off a cliff when the Bronco they are driving doesn't have the off road bits they really needed for the trail they were on. That said, the owner's manual is basically a giant CYA for the automaker, trying to warn you about any stupid thing you might do with your new vehicle.
I remember when I got my GTI the first thing I did was swap out the tires. There is no compromise on tires if your gonna drive in crap weather. Thanks! Did my research, they are very versatile tires and made for unibody type AWD/4WD type vehicles.
Yep, as you know, the snow, sleet, freezing rain, and slush in PA, good tires are not a want they are a need.
Good thing I won't have to worry about that here in San Diego....Lol. I'll run the Pirelli's until I'm ready to switch and by that time I'll have the benefit of seeing what worked (and didn't) for those that swapped tires....and something new may come along too for this market. The Pirelli’s are good for everything but winter weather. I am replacing them immediately with Falken Wildpeak AT Trail tires.

From a functional viewpoint the only part of the FX4 package from the parts offered that would provide any ride improvement when not off roading is the monotube shocks. The other features that might are also included in other packages like the bigger capacity radiator and cooling fan. Monotube shocks will definitely help the ride suspension if you are running heavy loads in the bed, towing or drive badly maintained main roads. Frankly they should have offered them also part of the 4k tow package since the base retail price of the shocks for the motorcraft monotube and twin tube shocks offered for AWD Mavericks is about a $10 difference.
The cost to switch out the shocks is about ~$300 to ~ $400 if you do it yourself minus whatever you can get reselling the original ones installed if you choose to do so. Unless you already bought or will only buy a non hybrid XL trim it is a better value to buy the FX4 package to get all the parts included with it besides the shocks at about ~$800.
It is a waste from a performance standpoint to buy the package and not off road the truck but not a waste from a value standpoint for the price paid vs. parts included in package.
It is an great bargain1 The best looking wheels and getting rid of that ballistic felt skid plate/under engine cover would have been enough for me. The other things are just a bonus and I could care less about the decal.Ditto for me AND the wheels are the nicest ones offered on my humble opinion. So those factors alone made it worth the FX4 price in my book. The rest is gravy and will probably enhance resale, if I ever sell it.
I have no reason to want an off road version and if was buying used I would discount on off road version with 50k miles at least 50% off a 50k mile on road version.I believe the FX4 will be good for resale. I’m not planning any off road duty but still got it for the heavier duty inclusions.
Fx4 changes absolutely nothing on mileage unless you decide to upgrade to more aggressive tires. From the factory you do lose ECO and sport but 1 minute with FORSCAN makes that a non issue.Although fx4 package is cheap, it is not a wise decision to have it if you don't need it.
I think mavs with fx4 will give about 2 miles less gas mileage then regular AWD. Also I think you will loose sport drive mode.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong
Well unfortunately for you the buyer doesn't set the sale price.I have no reason to want an off road version and if was buying used I would discount on off road version with 50k miles at least 50% off a 50k mile on road version.
My fx4 has been getting more mpg’s than others reported & I have the optional falken tires & only use regular 87 octane w/o eco mode - averaging over 30 mpg’s. I prefer the larger display & extra cooling w/hitch package included different wheels, etc thought $800 was a bargainAlthough fx4 package is cheap, it is not a wise decision to have it if you don't need it.

IMO it's a good value even with the duplicated items from 4k towing, that is, if you like the wheels. The pirellis have been good for me so far but I really haven't had any bad weather to test them in.Thread necromancer with some perspective now that there are some trucks out there.
