Well Said. Your absolutely correct imo.
Wish it was different since we have had more Fords over the years than any other make (including our current stable of an f-150 and our second Mav truck), but their management has to be the worst in the industry. Their EV losses will cause fewer new platforms to be brought to market in case anyone thinks this won't affect non-EV products. Oh well, it is what it is. Stay safe out there, my friend.

It’s all about profitability. Is there a market and can they make margins?
I would think the plug-in would be a better investment for Ford at this time. The compact EV may take a while since Ford took their absolutely best vehicle and ended up pulling the plug.
What was that model ?
The Lightening F-150 is back. I just got an advertisement.

Will be curious on the range of such a truck. That is what has been capping EV sales in many parts of the country, that and recharging times. The Chinese appear to be far ahead of the world in recharging time but I am not sure what that means for battery longevity.

They are likely just trying to clear out remaining inventory. The Lightning F-150 was absolutely discontinued.
https://www.npr.org/2025/12/15/nx-s1-5645147/ford-discontinues-all-electric-f-150-lightning
That's likely correct. On there website for 2025 the lightning is listed but with a different larger battery than before, who knows if you can actually get one 🤷‍♂️
For 2026 the only options are V6, V8 and Hybrid for the F150. No EV, Lightning etc shown for F150.
It appears their only EV for 2026 is the Mach-E and whenever the new EV truck thats rumored actually is orderable
That's my understanding/GUESS

I really hope this EV compact pickup project doesn’t get pushed too quickly. I don’t know what it looks like yet, there is a factory “now” being re-tooled to produce it, and for sale in a year or so.
Does it come with pre-loaded recalls?

I think the EREV is the way to go for the lightning in the short-term, and I would seriously consider one if the mileage was reasonable. There is a bunch of new battery tech on the immediate horizon, so once solid state or sodium ion are ready for mass production, we could actually see reasonable range/tow capacity/winter performance, etc., without having to make the thing 10K lbs and $120+ grand to start. The Chevies with max battery have impressive performance at this stage in the game, but cost and weight are ludicrous!

F-150 Lightening gone for good, really ?
Hahahaha PMSL

You guys really don’t know much about the new Ford Company do you.

Battery tech held the Lightening back, that’s all.
Battery tech is continuously advancing.

The F-150 Lightening will be back, just wait.

Second Gen Lightning (which will be EREV) will be a winner, IMO. Benefits of EV with the near infinite range of an ICE.

On the topic of the thread: yes. Ford indicated that the first vehicle in their new EV range would be a Maverick-like truck. Plus, the USGS just announced that there is enough lithium in Appalachia to replace all imports for a century.

The F150 Lightning will not be back.

I follow that truck and am on that forum.
Many things killed the lightning.

Mostly the cost, then the battery range when towing. Ford thought initially that people would pay more than 60k for an EV truck. Chevy and Dodge thought the same thing.

Battery cost was a large factor in pricing the truck. The batteries were very heavy, about 2000 pounds, and very expensive to make. Battery technology did not prevent the truck from being manufactured but it did play a role in the ability to keep those trucks out of the shop. Ford dealers did not like the EV and did not have the training or EV techs to repair them. Ford did an awful job marketing the truck to consumers and to their dealers.

American consumers are not wanting to pay that price for an EV.

And last, the Government sealed the deal when incentives and attitude towards EV created headwinds too strong to overcome from Ford.

With all of that, I will be trading my 25 XLT Maverick for the EV version when it comes out. I’ve been on the EV bandwagon for many years.Whether it’s a plug in or all EV, I’m ALL IN!

Plug in hybrid yes,

EV, not unless Hell freezes over or he Mad Max world becomes a reality.

I like to keep my options open. Especially for a long ride across the country.

I can’t drive 55
Or wait an hour for power.
I want piston power when I’m doing 80 plus.

A PHEV Maverick would be the perfect vehicle for my life. Give me even just 25mi of electric range like the 4XE got and I'd never need to buy gas in town.

It would also almost certainly cost $50k+. And for that money, I wouldn't just complain about the shitty interior plastics, but DEMAND better.
