Read post #19. I think you missed it.
I will also add the pump is in a deeper well, or sump. The tank is a complex shape. Ford has you covered. 👍🏻
You're correct, but we could just post up pics and put the issue to bed...

Sump at lower right.

Also, it doesn't appear like a type of tank that will rust. ;)

Yes. Thank you. I had a drawing from the repair manual but not an actual photo. Thanks for the actual photo.

Now if you could just find the stamp that says 16.5 gallons.... 😉

My understanding is that it minimizes the probability of condensation forming on the walls of the tank due to the air space. This happens in cold weather. Obviously, water in the tank is not good. I never let mine get below half a tank.
Also keep in mind I fill at half because of condensation but no lower than quarter tank this what keep the fuel pump from going out since the fuel pump is keep cool by the gas

I guess you didn't read this entire chain.
You should.

Also plastic does not conduct heat and cold. So virtually no condensation.

I’ve always filled up my vehicle’s fuel tanks when it gets to half. Is that a good idea or no, cause I’m wondering if the ‘older’ fuel goes bad, but no big deal if mixed with newer gas. Thanks. Remember, there are no dumb questions 😉.
Every single minute of every single drive fuel is sucked from the bottom of the tank. This is so water as you say NEVER EVER EVER has opportunity to accumulate in your tank.

It's time this myth is busted.

If your mythical way of thinking were true, in Florida after a couple of years you'd have GALLONS of water in your tank! 🤣
This is true, especially in light of the fact that water (specific gravity = 1.0) is much more dense than gasoline (specific gravity = 0.73 - 0.76), meaning of course that water would accumulate in the bottom of the tank; also considering that water and gasoline are practically insoluble with each other.

i personally run my fuel down to nearly empty before re-filling. The only exceptions are topping off before going on a long trip or right before extreme cold weather. My Ranger ran for 27 years and 353000 miles and my Maverick is doing fine at 27,000 miles with this strategy, but as others have said, do what works for you.

With tempeerature changes, condensation can occur. You don't want water in the tank. Yes, filling up at 1/2 tank is the best thing to do.

I wish people would read all posts in a thread. I do. But I guess that's too much work. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stating "you can get a few molecules of water in your tank" is like saying the sun will burn out. Both true statements, but inconsequential to your life.

I refuel my hybrid Mav at 3/4 tank. Retired and I only drive about 120 miles a week. It's usually 3 1/2 gallons and around $10. Makes me feel like I'm hardly spending any money on gas, lol.
I was thinking of starting to refuel at 1/2 a tank but then I spot a station with 30 cents less a gallon and I can't resist pulling in! :)
I don’t have a hybrid but I do the sam. Keeps my cost at the pump reasonable.

Someone posted once that if you had not filled up after several months the ice would run more frequently to need gas sooner.

I use Kroger fuel points and save $1.00 per gallon. (all Kroger affiliates do this) My wife and I both drive hybrids so it makes us feel pretty smug when we fill up for $20 or less.

As a pilot with 2 planes, always kept tanks full, when stored, just to keep water out, by condensation, or leakage around the fuel caps. Tanks have a low point gasolator with special valve to stick probe into, collect fuel samples, check for water. Luckily, I’ve never detect water. Of course never used fuel with ethanol in it. That’s a different story.

Retired now but when I sold auto parts, I loved those who ran their tanks like Kramer on a test drive with the car salesman! Sold a lot of fuel pumps to those folks! I always fill mine at or just under a quarter full. Keeps that fuel pump cool and happy!

I read or was told it cost more money to fill up your tank to soon. Just by wasting gas to stop at a gas station more frequently.
I typically run to about a quarter tank. Sure I top off if I'm going to run 500 miles or similar before starting out.
The Harleys are a little different. About 130 miles we usually stop. My wife has a Tri-Glide that eats more gas than my Electra Glide. The tuner on hers throws more gas to help run a little cooler. Of course it's heavier.
Stopping often on them paid off once. After a stop somewhere in a Louisiana motel we topped off the next morning. She comes on the radio squalling about running funny and really hot. Stopped in a Target parking lot and pulled the plugs, black as hell and smelled funny. Took a whiff of of the gas tank again funny smell. Asked what the hell did you put in here? She whipped a receipt out of her back pocket, Kerosene almost a gallon. Put some fresh plugs in and topped off with premium. Instantly rode better, half tank and was pretty much back to normal.
I don't know how that didn't turn out worse than it did. Luckily I carry a tool roll and spare plugs.
