Front License Plate or No Front License Plate?

Debating whether to even install the bracket and put the plate on. My kid has had his car without a plate for 5 years. I had an old Ranger with no plate on the front for over 3. Never a problem. I think the front looks cleaner without it.

I know it's "required".....but so are many other things that just don't happen.

Any thoughts?

Hell no. It’s required here in CO and I requested that the dealer NOT install the bracket. In all honesty, I think the new car prep employees were lazy and didn’t do their job to install it per requirements. Not having a front plate alone not grounds for a ticket on its own in CO, it’s added onto a previous driving infraction so I’m a careful driver and scan ahead for LE and try not to be a dick while driving.

Throw your license plate in the front window and call it a day.

i used to do the front windshield in my 68 chevy stepside that had no mount location on the front bumber, but here in cali thats not legal, had to pay a couple tickets for it and eventually verify installation with lapd. requirement is that it must be on bumber.

it was an easy job after i figured out the parts,
the spare hardware store part i had already - had to cut with a wheel and paint...

and one of these for up inside the hole (part of the same unistrut system - the spring is the best part because you leave that dangling though the hole below to give you something to hold onto when threading the bolt, there is no access from above...

i used a couple of spare rubber washers i had for above and below the hole to cushion the paint
you'll probably also want a washer inside the strut to keep it steadY

i should also mention, prior to tightening, there is fair amount of leeway in the pivoting so you have some options for positioning angle.

LOL... my dealership installed my license plate holder upside down. The front of it pointed down. I thought it looked kinda peculiar when I got home. Took 2 minutes to flip it over. Looks much better. I do like the look of the offset bracket though. I might have to change it.

For anyone interested in both not getting tickets (if the case in your state) and also not drilling, i cut a piece of unistrut and mounted my front plate from the undercarriage, making use of the winching hole, going for a similar "offset" theme as the rear...

Can I buy one from you?

I must be in the minority. I live in DE and the front plate isn't required. But... I wanted the front plate holder. My dealer didn't install it right there, and I didn't want to wait for them to install it since I was running late to a dinner get together with friends on the day I picked it up. The drilling part of the install was easy, the bottom two drill holes are actually in dimples. But the plastic clips were annoying to use. They were essentially plastic pop-rivets so you have to pull the shaft out while holding the body in place. My pop-rivet gun is for metal pop-rivets so it didn't have a nozzle piece large enough for the plastic shaft. I had to hold the rivet body in place with channel-locks in one hand, and grab and pull the shaft with pliers in my other hand. I wasn't able to fully pull them to snap the shaft so I had to then cut the shaft off with heavy wire cutters. What a pain in the butt.

The reason I wanted the front plate holder even though my state doesn't require a front license plate was for a vanity name plate for my truck:

For those of you who are stuck with the front plate holder installed and you don't think you need it, this is an idea instead of trying to cover the holes drilled into your bumper. YMMV

I asked my rep please don’t drill my bumper, he said...maybe. Lucked out I think it looks clean. my plate is under the back seat with tie wraps if needed. Then There’s that yeah, whole constrained part story, waiting for the dealer to send the plate mount. However just for drill and reasons mentioned, both kids and wife run front plates.

Never understood the front plate hate, but then we've always been required to have front plates. Always know when an outsider comes into the area, if they are lacking them, vehicles look odd to me without one.
