The hybrid warranty seems solid and the engine trans is already in use in the Escape. The prospective issue I see is the ability to use the Maverick as a actual truck, hauling loads and pulling trailers. It will either be durable through due diligence on Ford's part or not, only time will tell. By taking out a ext. warranty, you're basically betting there will be issues, just like a life insurance policy.

I’m inclined to buy one if I do pick up a Maverick because of how long I plan on keeping it. I don’t plan on owning it for less than 10 years. However I will say that I’ve had the worst reliability with Honda even if everyone holds them to a high standard. Civic Si Grenaded 4 a/c compressors in 3 years, Accord ate 3 transmissions over 16 years. Both were owned since new and dealer maintained for majority of their lives. I also don’t abuse my cars so these definitely soured me on that brand.

I have owned Ford vehicles all my life I bought my first new one in 1983. I have always gotten dependable service and lone life in the cars I have had. My suggestion on extended warranties are get it on the electronics. My wifes 2018 Edge is having electronics problems and the extended warranty on it getting fixed for free. But don't buy the wheel warranty. When the dealer tries to sell you the wheel warranty they make sound like if you damage the wheel it'll be replaced but take it from my experience unless the wheel is destroyed they won't replace it.

Because nobody else is making something similar. I like the size, fuel efficiency, utility, etc. If Toyota were making something similar, I'd buy that instead. But they aren't, so I'm weighing my options with the Maverick. I REALLY want it to be reliable, but Ford's reputation is giving me pause. I suspect that other folks who owned small trucks from Toyota and Nissan in the '80s and '90s are facing the same dilemma. Those trucks were tough, reliable, and durable--but also small, efficient, and affordable.
I understand exactly what your saying. I'll be leaving my Toyota I've ridden hard for 15 years. Only issue was the airbag that could kill people. Oops. If I was buying a Ford Helicopter, I would be shopping for extended warranty for sure. But a truck? A truck built by Ford. I have very little worries. They have nice experience with hybrids in the Escape/Mariner/Tribute. I'm sure there will be issues, there are with every car. So there's no reason not to get an extended warranty. I'll want to hear the pitch. Weigh the value. But I don't think it's an automatic need.

If I had to buy a Ford helicopter, I'd buy extra parachutes. Except that I'm pretty sure that parachutes aren't that great for helicopters. So I don't think that I'd buy a Ford helicopter! ;)

But a Ford truck? Yeah, I ordered one--sans parachutes. Might get that service plan though.

On the recommendation of some folks in the forum, I was looking at Flood Ford. They sell genuine "Ford Protect Extended Service Plans" online, which lets you check some numbers. I'm not sure if their prices are accurate for the Maverick, but I'm hoping that they are close. You can test some options at: https://www.floodfordesp.com/
Thanks! Had no idea you could buy thru another dealer. Great way to compare.

At $2,740 for the 8 year/150,000 mile/$200 deductible warranty, that is the equivalent of betting 93 pennies a day that you'll only have to pay $200 per major issue with this brand new, completely unproven truck that everyone is buying.

Seems like a pretty good bet for peace of mind.

I've never owned a Ford (or any other American brand) mostly because they've never seemed terribly reliable. But I'm going to purchase a Ford Maverick, because nobody else is making anything similar.

I've never regretted not purchasing an extended warranty or service plan for any Toyota, Honda, or Mitsubishi vehicle that I've owned. Reliable cars just don't seem to need them.

The question is whether other Maverick buyers are going to buy service plans. The closest Ford vehicle is the Escape, which doesn't seem to have proven to be that reliable. I know that it's a gamble, but I'd love to know what other folks are thinking.

Thanks!
If you follow the service guidelines and have your vehicle serviced at a Ford Dealership you should have an enjoyable reliable vehicle.
Parts wear out, you will know during the first three years of warranty ownership how reliable your Maverick will be. If you choose to purchase an extended warranty you can do so at Any time from Ford or elsewhere. The difference is in the small print, some warranties
stipulate the use of rebuilt or secondary market parts. If you purchase or have service from Ford They use FOMOCO parts and warranty them . I have owned many Ford cars and trucks it is always
about getting proper service at the recommended intervals.

It's also a really good idea to see what warranties dealers are offering. Around me, the dealerships are fighting tooth and nail for business, so they're offering really good warranties beyond the manufacturer warranties. I ordered my Maverick through a local dealership that includes a lifetime powertrain warranty with every new or certified pre-owned purchase, redeemable at any Ford dealership in the country. They don't offer any discounts below MSRP on orders, but to me, the extended warranty makes up for that. Sure, there are other components that can get expensive, but not like the powertrain. So I won't be buying a b-to-b extended warranty unless they offer one for stupid cheap.

Everyone has their own set of criteria, I suppose, cuz given the factory powertrain warranty on the Mav? The only reason I'm considering adding any coverage is for the electronics. Those are the expensive headaches that worry me, lol.

I have owned foreign and domestic (USA-Japan) and while some models have been more reliable than others, it certainly wasn't split along country-of-manufacture or domestic/foreign brand.

Also, I self insure. The $2500-$3500 dollars (extended warranty) per vehicle can be set aside in a rainy day fund for such emergencies as car repair or applying to your next vehicle purchase. With habits like this, you may one day be able to buy your vehicles out-of-pocket. ;)

Just my 2 cents...

Extended Service Plans are love 'em or hate 'em topics. Really depends on how long you're really going to keep a vehicle. The 3 year/36k mile limited warranty on non-powertrain, non-hybrid components will get expended pretty quickly. Most all vehicles these days are rolling circuit boards; over the last 10-15 years the problems I've had on a multitude of vehicles have mainly been electrical in nature, with A/C running a close second. ESP's are profit centers for dealers, and they are definitley a negotiating point with whatever dealer you use. As others have mentioned, check out the prices that online dealers like Flood Ford, Lombard, Zeigler etc quote you. Remember you can drive your new ride for a couple thousand miles or so to make sure you really like it, and THEN buy an ESP plan from a Flood, Lombard etc. What I've done my last couple of new F150 purchases is get an online ESP quote, then when the where-purchased dealer Finance guy tries to get me to purchase their ESP, I ask if they'll price-match the Flood/Lombard/Zeigler quote. Sometimes they will, sometimes not. But worth asking.

Hybrid already comes with a very long hybrid component warranty. I think I'm good on repairing almost anything else myself or out of pocket
I think the Ford hybrid powertrain is 8 years/100,000 miles. One would almost be better off putting an extra $50 away each month for your own self-financed warranty once the factory warranties expire. In three years you would have $1800 stashed away.

I have a 2014 Ford Fusion and I've had two repair bills, one was for a wiring harness that a rodent decided to snack on - $200 - and the other was the main ECU went evil and had to be replaced at $700. Otherwise, being a 7 year old car with well over 100,000 miles its been pretty reliable. Side note: the Fusion was built in the same factory that the Maverick will be built in.

I'll say this
I'm on my 3rd Ranger and they've been really reliable for me.
I'm only going for the Maverick is I don't need to tow anything anymore and I like the MPG it's getting.
