Had no idea you could enable all these features with Forscan before reading this forum. My last truck purchase was a Tacoma pre total computer control. There’s a few features listed on here I’d like to add once my truck arrives.

is there any chance that Ford will try and lock out these hacks or make it more difficult in future production runs? . Obviously they know it’s happening as they read the forum and some of the features are sold as part of upgrade packages so in theory they are losing $$$ by allowing it to happen.

Also can they deny warranty if you have ECU/ECM issues?

I had to have one replaced on my 2014 Tacoma and it was covered.

FORScan has been around for awhile, and Ford doesn’t seem to have done anything to disable it yet. While we don’t know what the future holds, they seem fine with it for now.

I don’t think that they are losing much money. I wasn’t going to buy an XLT just to get cruise control, so adding it later didn’t cost Ford anything. In fact, I had to buy some switches, which made Ford some money that they otherwise wouldn’t have. Disabling the panic button on my key fob also didn’t cost Ford anything.

I likely wouldn’t have ordered FX4 and 4K. Just 4K. Only wanted the Sand Mode FX4 offered for deep snow.

Given that other Ford models like F-150 owners have used Forscan for years and have never been 'blocked' by Ford (unless I'm mistaken), I'd say it's not an issue for the Maverick.

They may not block us from making changes, but I have read where after having recall fixes, e.g. potential tail light outages, programming done to the BCM was reverted back and the owner had to reprogram their changes again.

The security controls to block out Forscan would be incredibly expensive for Ford to design and dealers to have access to. I don't think it will happen.

I wouldn't run Forscan on the same computer I was logging into any bank or other sensitive accounts...

Ford could completely lock (via encryption) their systems, but then you start crossing into Right To Repair issues and serviceability issues for independent shops. There is a line they have to take between absolute control and outside serviceability. So, while possible, Ford isn't likely to start doing so as it would lock out tens of thousands of shops.

Also can they deny warranty if you have ECU/ECM issues?

They absolutely can deny warranty. They absolutely can see that Forscan was used to modify the vehicles operation. On something minor they aren't likely to go looking, but on a major warranty repair they probably will. If you blow a transmission at an unusually early stage, and they see you used Forscan to enable different lighting modes for the interior, you would most certainly be fine. Use it to mess with timing, fueling, shift points? They would quickly deny that.

Not likely. I've been using Forscan on Ford vehicles since 2012, and nothing has been locked out.

You're confusing Forscan with tuners. Forscan cannot modify timing, fueling and shift points.

Definitely. Those rat bastards at BofA wouldn't hesitate to mess with my car, given the chance!

Given I had to install a virus onto my computer to run Forscan, ehh, yeah, I'm not doing any banking on it, that's a given.

(Yes I am referring to Windows as a virus. I mean, it does meet the definition of a Trojan Horse these days...)

I fully get the desire, I had my 2005 and 2011 v8 mustangs tuned, but I'll pass on the Russian software (Forscan). To each their own, no problem here.
