The battery helped set the springs deeper in their natural progressive action. Cheaper than changing springs.
The two changes worked together. Like I said we listened to the more experienced people.

Ever hear of using toilet paper for an oil filter ? Inside the oil filters gutted can ?

My brother-in-law had a Plymouth slant six with a toilet paper filter. I don’t think he ever changed the oil and it always looked clean. Don’t know how the oil could even get through the filter

I was told normal oil pressure was adequate to push the oil through the filter with less than half the resistance.
And they put on a new one for every race.

If you're willing to make the assumption that 100% of the weight of the battery was supported by the front axle at the original battery location, and 100% of the weight of the battery was supported by the rear axle after re-location, I suppose so. I'm not, nor am I willing to make it into a math problem. At least when I stated that he battery was 1.5% of the weight, all I was doing was assuming the curb weight and the weight of the battery.

Tbone289 , I wasn't questioning your math in any way .I agree with you 100% . The more weight you remove from the center point of the car and move it to the rear is going to aid in traction . When you move weight from here to there , that is what you refer as weight differental Even moving the drivers seat back a few inches helps . Every ounce counts .

This was my first car. 1974 Mustang II. Only difference in this photo is the hub caps. Color and what I can see of the interior color looks the same. Had 54,000 miles on it and looked brand new and it had AC. Never smoked or leaked, but did use about a half quart of oil per week.
It was 1979 and I was 15. Got a license for a small motorcycle at age 14. So all I had to do was take an eye and driving test for my permit. At 16 went back for another eye test and had a full blown Motorcycle/Operators license.
I had saved all my money mowing grass, hay hauling and other things kids do to earn money. Found a nice 1956 Chevy Bel Air and it was going to be mine. My old man didn't want me in that car so being the good dad he was and he was, he bought me this Pinto in mini Mustang skin to keep me out of the Chevy. Talk about the Ford Experience. But it was cheap to drive and dependable.

He wouldn't let nobody but me wrench on his EL Camino, because I was cheap

Not His but for the Young kids, This was the El Camino.
He had a poor taste in colors, His was crap brown and my Cuda' was Split Pea soup green :'P
FWIW the Camino was a cream puff. It floated down the road like a Hurst at 13 miles per gallon,
16 mpg's on the Interstate. His had a 26 gallon gas tank. Gas was 60 cents a gallon, adjusted for Inflation that was $3.12 a gallon. About $14 a fill up and a city range of 300 to 325 miles depending If you ran the Air conditioner and how heavy your right foot was.

Got my initial driver's license with my father's '66 Valiant stripper (3 on the tree, slant six, manual steering and brakes, rubber mats on floor, four door.
After refining my driving skills on that one, I was more than ready for the big day when I turned sixteen. I remember, that slant six was cold blooded and It took much finesse to keep it running without stalling it out at that stop sign on a hill a short distance from the house. Once fully warmed up, it was okay. Far from a dream car, however.

Under 13.0 in the quarter mile and yes It needed the traction bars. Great car for Bracket racing. The 302 V-8 was the hot ticket for this car and the older Stangs back in the day. Holly Headers, cams, Four Barrels, Four on the floor. Sexy Baby :'P

But it doesn't have 400 watts of 110 power...
