Hi All,

I have a 2023 hybrid XLT with 25,000 miles and check engine light just came on. I’m waiting for appointment at dealer but what is the best scanner to get to see the code for what the issue is? Thanks!

any scanner will show the code.
You can also go to a place like Autozone and they will read the code for free.

Depends on how "techy" you are. I like the Bluetooth ones that link to your phone so you can easily see what is what. Often the app on the phone will even show you tons of detail about the specific code, since the assumption is your phone is connected to the internet. Usually can force a code reset if you don't like looking at the Check Engine Light.

Those can be found for $20-$30 on Amazon.

Best scanner? Your neighbor's. :)
So darn true. I have one, and neighbors know it. They pull in my driveway, ask me to plug in. Give them the code. Then they ask “How to fix it?” I feed them line of BS so a real repair shop could fix it. LoL.

And there’s 3 AutoZones like places < 2 miles away!

Last neighbor who came by, I sent him an Amazon link to buy a damn code reader.

I have the BLUE DRIVER, this thing is great, is the most expensive I ever had, but is also the more complete too. Check the reviews on YouTube, there's plenty of cheap ones that works good but there's some moments that you want a reliable and capable unit, this is like 80-100$ but is money well spent if you ever need it.

My friend ford mini cargo van was slow, not power, and he was so frustrated that was about to sell or trade it for something more powerful, we scanned the vehicle and found that one of the rear lights was having a issue and because of that was triggering other things too, with only changing the buld and clearing the codes the lil vehicle was like new, the vehicle was so underpowered that cannot go in my entrance unless was on reverse, listen my entrance is almost flat.lol we clear few more codes and even ran the bluedriver like a week after just to re-erase some codes, but the vehicle came back strong as new after that. Cost for him almost nothing, on my case I earned a Wendy's combo and my friend happiness.

Just get one with Bluetooth; you don't have to be super picky. It's nice to be able to leave it plugged in and use your phone to monitor things in realtime as well.

People like using the Torque app on their phone with it. I disliked it (honestly can't remember why, just that I hated it lol) so I use Car Scanner instead.

Autel makes pretty good universal ones. If you have a windows laptop and buy the USB to OBD2 cable the free version of forscan works well. They also have versions for iOS and Android.
