Extended warranties are a gamble and the odds are usually against you. Also, never buy a third party warranty. If you plan to keep the truck long term, it might be worth it.

I’m a low mileage driver and the only extended warranty I’ve ever bought is one for my Maverick. In 2024 I got a 10 year 36,000 (more than enough miles for me) zero deductible Premium Plan for my 2023 hybrid from Grainger Ford for $735. Lights included (headlights are $400 aftermarket, $1,100 OEM each), but no enhanced rental coverage.

Annoyingly, the hybrid battery is not covered. Only the original 8 year factory warranty applies. Additionally, oil leaks are not covered. A really crappy exclusion from Ford. Other manufactures do include oil leaks in the factory warranty. I recently bough a new Mazda, and oil leaks are covered in the factory warranty.

This won’t affect most people, but looking at the Grainger site today, they no longer sell 36,000 mile / 10 year warranties. The minimum 10 year warranty is 60,000 miles. I wonder if this is Ford or Granger?

Oil leaks are absolutely covered by a Ford Premium Care ESP.

Undecided on my Mav because its an XL and they dont give you a discount for all the less tech the XL has and its just a daily.

The other variable is CSPs that ford has been pretty good at releasing, but they are often years later. They usually will reimburse you for prior fixed though. My 2012 Super Duty had one for EGR as an example 6 years later....

2012 SuperDuty, EGR, 2 Radiators , set of power mirrors.... Won out on this one, should have bought a used one after as the list kept going after ESP

2018 Wranger, Where do I start, so far ahead of the warranty cost, Axle seals, rear main, diff seals, new front axel new steering wheel, Way ahead

2018 Raptor - I think i have like 20k in receipts done on the extended warranty, CDF Drum, mulitple seals, cam phasers a second time, the list keeps going

2019 - GT350R - still have 4 more years left on warranty and have done a air conditioning compressor so far, FOrd is ahead right now but I dont expect that will be the case by the end.

Buddies 2017 GT350R - OVER 100K in warranty work..... ESP covered

Many other examples from friends.

That being said, you have to be a person that keeps up on their car and gets issues fixed. I think unless something is catastrophic many dont.

I know of some friends that have not made out on them over the years with a fusion and a focus, but the majority have.....

yes the companies make money, but it seems problems are more often these days.

You have to decide what level of headache you are willing to accept. For me , I mostly have bought ESPs and have been ahead on all by 1 and that still has years to go.

years ago prices never really went up, my 2018 Raptor cost would have bene about the same nearing the 3/36 as buying it day one. Thats not the time we live in today.

That being said, it can be actually cheaper to buy it later if you get the number of miles/years right vs buying it up front and buying more miles than you need.
