Wondering how long everyone warms up they’re 2 L eco-boost. I have a neighbor who has a GMC canyon and he warms his truck up for at least 5 to 10 minutes before he drives. Seems excessive.
What is excessive?
🤔 When I lived in the Upper Midwest ❄ with -10°or more actual ambient temperature and did not have access to a convenient power source for a block heater or dipstick heater. It was about getting the antifreeze up to temperature and windows defrosted, along with the interior somewhat warm. Or at least not as long of a wait while driving for warm air.
Here in the desert Southwest 🏜 where it can be 115°+ the interior of the car can be around 150°, it's about cooling it down somewhat.
Either scenario is going to take longer than 1-2 minutes. Thank god for fabric seats.

every handbook I've read says that warming up is not required.

It used to have value on some carbureted vehicles, and for the choke.

modernly, once the oil is everywhere, you're good to go.

oh, and if you're in a factory fuel injected chevy from the 50s, it needs a while. A long while!

I agree with the above, warming up isn't necessary and it's actually better if you don't. The less it runs in rich, "open loop" mode the better. Let the RPMs settle, then drive off and don't put it under a load until it reaches temperature.

I have a neighbor that has a Honda with a fart-can exhaust and he'll idle it in the driveway sometimes for 20-30 minutes on a warm morning before he drives. I can't imagine the amount of carbon build up...

Modern vehicles require zero warmup.

Engine? Zero
Interior when it's cold with the remote start? A few minutes.

That's what the mirror heat, steering wheel heat and seat heat options are for. And with a cloth interior your butt doesn't even get cold if you don't have those options.

I usually do a few minutes. I wait for the tachometer to come down to normal idle range. Usually 3-4 minutes.

What or who determines, what is excessive? For one person or everyone?

You could not have said it better. Northern Michigan can get cold, snow, ice & I like my vehicle to be warm when I get in it.
Is that 'excessive'? I am paying for the fuel, right?
I drove 18-wheelers, carhauler to be precise, in the winter. It look miles before that engine would get warm enough to put heat out. Engine was warm, but not me.
With new Maverick going to have auto-start on it, all I have to do is clean the snow off. That is if I get it before winter is done. :)
