Before we hyperventilate over steering read manual page 205. The steering control is tied in to an adaptive control system so there can be computer controlled actions. Perhaps it won't be 100% until drive mode is selected. Also read where a low tire or mis alignment may cause the adaptive system to switch off. This is NOT just a "make turning the wheels into a new direction EASIER system". If you change battery or disconnect the battery cables there is mention of required learning. So with perhaps a brief occasional resistance to steering we should not get immediately excited??? The dealer will have to determine what any problem is and react accordingly.

From what I understand, the problem is with a sensor that’s part of the steering assist. Apparently the sensor can’t be replaced and repair requires replacement of the entire steering column assembly. Dealer can’t seem to get the necessary part. Still wondering if several of our trucks were built with a batch oh bad steering components.
Makes me wonder if the part for this issue had to be changed to a supplier that Ford has less experience with.

I've noticed stuff in stores from vendors I've not heard of before because the store can't get their usual supply. . . the owner is doing the best they can to stock their shelves.

Did not experience an occasional resistance to steering. Total failure. Sounds like that’s happened to others here. Interesting it seems to have happened at very low mileage. Mine at 180 miles with others reporting failures when the truck was driven off the carrier. Also seems to be a “new” problem that hasn’t appeared until recently. Another concern has been the apparent inability to get replacement parts. My truck has been sitting at the dealership for nearly 3 weeks waiting for a part that will arrive “someday.” Hope this isn’t a widespread problem or indicative of a power steering assist system with a short lived service life. Time will tell.

I hope also it's not a widespread problem. I am sure Ford is sourcing wherever they can get them. I am sure production capacity is being exceeded at normal suppliers.

Just bought a ‘24 Lariat last Thursday and got this error while driving home from dealer (30 miles on odometer.) My truck was on the showroom floor with the battery disconnected before I test drove it. No error during test drive.

Went back to dealer right away and they said the error should probably disappear after a few miles, but it didn’t.

I went back to the dealer yesterday and had the battery fully charged, since a battery that isn't fully charged can apparently cause all kinds of errors. Was told that should probably fix it.

Well it didn't... The next step is to put it back in the shop for more troubleshooting.

I will be dropping it off tomorrow.

This kinda sucks the fun right out of buying a new vehicle.

Hi! I will send you a PM now. Thank you!
Please let us know of any success with that direction.

Because we all seem to have an opinion of it based on what we don't see.
And I don't mean not informed about, rather nothing is done.

Dealer just called. It’s a bad sensor in the steering column. It’s available and has been ordered. My truck should be fixed next week. Fingers crossed.

I chose not to go the “Ford Motor Company” user account way, since my case is already moving satisfactorily.

Got truck back from dealer after a few days and all seems well so far. The steering assist errors have gone away. Maybe I can enjoy now, instead of worrying! LOL
