dumb question: fuel tank pressure sensor

Chalk up another P0496/ P0451/ Krown rust protection issue...

In any event I decided to replace the FTPS as the most likely culprit (ford recommended evap purge valve but that's 4 times the price haha).

Came today... As shown there is a difference between the old and new... A grey plastic cap.

Now the dumb question...

Is this an attempt by ford.to protect the sensor from gunk during operation? Or is it just for shipping and should be removed before install?

I was already considering trying to rig up a shield before next rust spray so...

I would leave it on. The green mark on the clip is separate from the green mark on the sensor. Maybe there to help the other person line up the cover easier? Your old one does have gunk where the new cover protects…

What harm could come from leaving it on? Don’t have a clue:)
