Completely not true. See my post above.
Yes, that has been acknowledged in other comments here. I actually have the environmental plate on all my vehicles. However, compared to the B plate, the specialty plates cost more upfront and more to renew. Plus, as has been mentioned, you will never get pulled over on LSD with a B plate and you are allowed to park a pickup on any street with a B plate anyways (as long as it isn't a commercial vehicle). So why are you so adamantly advocating to get the specialty over the B here?

Was behind an Explorer Sport Trac over the weekend, and noticed it had passenger car plates (IL) on it. Others have mentioned that the Santa Cruz will be titled as a SUV. While I agree that the Maverick may not be "targeted" by the CPD for B-plate violations, it sure would be nice to avoid the possibility.

Because its "special" and can be later transferred to a car or SUV later unlike a B-plate.

Took a little drive down LSD in the Maverick last night, b plate and all.

Figured if a cop wants to pull me over I’ll pay the fine…I did have a colleague who got a ticket for driving his Ranger on LSD back in the early 2000s

Thanks Santa
To correct everyone on this thread-
Santa is right- regardless of what license plate you have and what purpose your truck is, the city ordinance is no trucks on LSD and boulevards. Mav is being classified as a truck by Ford, therefore driving restricted. That being said, I see delivery trucks and pickups on LSD. But if a cop chooses you, you have no defense. The history of this ordinance is 100 years old. To change it, all Mav owners need to come together in solidarity and write your alderman!
Faithfully and factually submitted.
Thanks

Write the alderman in the notes section of a check.

My dealer says that truck plates will be required on the Mav. Is that correct?
Depends on the state. Florida no, had trucks for prob 20 years but not used for commercial, my company owned truck had commercial plates higher cost too. I live in Indiana and my F150 would have but I got Navy Veteran plate insted

Everyone
I wish to provide further information. Ford is calling the Mav a truck, therefore you must get a truck plate. You will not have opportunity to get a passenger vehicle plate. The comments are referring to vanity and special plates instead of the truck plate. That is an expensive option. Regardless, your still driving a truck and you cannot drive on LSD or boulevards in Chicago!!
Hope this puts it to rest!
Thanks

The dealer put B plates on my transit connect.

I’ve driven thousands of miles up and down LSD with my suburban. That has a specialty plate though.

Live in Chicago. You will most likely have to get a B (Truck) plate since all pickups, including Ridgelines have to. However, I will guarantee you that you will never ever be pulled over on LSD with a Maverick. Just don't drive it while towing something.

If you are new to the city, you have to be super egregiously stupid to get pulled over in the city. From my experience, laying down some rubber at a stop light at 2:00 am half a block from a police station counts as stupid.
I got pulled over in my little Misubishi Mighty Max pick-up back in around 02 - 04' for driving on the LSD no other infraction involved. At the time I didn't even realize "trucks" were prohibited.

Azul- sorry to hear you got a ticket. When did it happen? How much was the ticket?
Whtnrdy- Please be aware it is not how you drive on LSD, it is the fact that you have a pickup truck on LSD that can get you pulled over! Lot of people take the chance, but I would rather they change the 50 year old law!

Someone said they were pulled over 20 years ago, and another person said they know a friend that got pulled over 20 years ago. Drive on it, or don't, it's up to you.
