...car thieves who somehow find my door key will just sit there trying to start the truck over and over with the door key, even though it is a "dumb" key and not coded to disable the engine immobilizer. It technically could be coded to my Maverick, but it isn't, so there is no way to identify that it isn't coded other than the fact that it won't start the engine.
I hid a "test" key in a magnetic spare key box. Chip-less Test keys are available from some locksmiths for almost nothing. It will open the door & tailgate, but won't start the truck.

I wear size medium gloves so I don't think I'm ham-handedly hitting the lock tab by accident, though it would explain why it doesn't happen every time I exit the truck. With the heated steering wheel I don't wear gloves in the truck, anyway.
Interesting! Mostly I'm kinda glad to know it's not just me that's having 'ghost lock'! :alien:

I was definitely having this issue the 1st week of owning. For me, it was after I pulled the handle, I was pushing the door open from the same area and causing it to lock. Since I realized what was happening, I usually push it open from further back or from the lower handle in a 2nd motion.
That’s not the issue. The manual door lock locks all the doors. With the auto lock problem the truck locks only the drivers door and it does it when the fob is inside the truck — doesn’t need to be in the ignition. If the fob is in the truck and the door closes, the car locked the drivers door ONLY and you are locked out.

I’m having this exact same infuriating problem with my 2022 Maverick Hybrid XL with no external keypad. To clarify this issue is NOT being caused by accidentally touching the manual door lock mechanism. The manual door lock activates all the door locks. With this auto lock problem the truck locks only the drivers door and it happens whenever the fob is inside the truck — the key doesn’t need to be in the ignition. If the fob is in the truck and the door closes, the truck locks the drivers door ONLY and you are locked out. My 2022 Maverick has done it 3 times. The first two times I was able to get in because I had previously unlocked all the doors. So when it locked the drivers door by itself I was able to get in through a back door. Today I had unlocked the front door only set the fob inside while I rinsed off my dirty hands with a bottle of water. I set the fob down so I wouldn’t get the fob wet or have to reach into my pocket with dripping wet hands. Seconds later I went to enter and the door had shut somehow and locked itself. The truck is not even running. So my wife is on the way with the spare key driving 40 miles out here. My phone is too old to use the Ford Pass app. Other cars autolock only after you start the car and start to drive. You get up to 10 mph and click the doors lock.

I sure wish somebody who this has happened to in some instances multiple times.
Would try and replicate the situation and record it with their phone. So far no one is willing or able too. ?????

Good idea. I’d do it but I’m currently locked out. I will make a video when I get home.

Have you tried the passenger doors? We've had a member on here who tried to purposely lock his key fob in the truck and there was only one way it could be done and that was by accidentally hitting the lock.

Yes, that’s in my post.
You may want to reconfigure the lock settings back, so that when you stop and put your Maverick in park all the doors unlock.
In other members past experience it was only the driver's door that was inexplicably locking.
Maybe when your wife gets there with your key you can try and replicate what happened and record it

The last time I locked myself out of a vehicle I made it a point to never close the door of my vehicle without the keys in my physical possession.

That was a lot of years ago.

From prior threads long before you joined - Actually - it's you.

No one has been able to video themselves getting out clearly not hitting the lock, and it locking behind them.

The manual door lock does NOT activate all the door locks. The manual door lock is right above the handle as the pictures in this thread show. It locks only the door it's on.
Go ahead, try it. 1 door on manual lock.

The Power Door Lock/unlock button does all the doors.
And as you comment, some options take care of other situations for auto-lock or auto-unlock.

And with key in ignition, never even turned since system knows it's there, system will NOT lock all the doors, it'll honk and unlock all the doors.
Failsafe.

For fob just left in the cab - you are correct it has no clue it's there - you don't have the keyless entry system where that is setup.

Oh - passengers have accidentally locked themselves out too, pressing that manual lock themselves.

Please test and video, if you really have an issue it would be great to know it's possible.
Obviously with so much computer control, almost anything could be possible - it's just never been shown.

Mav....that IS the issue. You've got it backwards. The 'Manual" button on the door ONLY locks the door you push it on. Driver's side front door for most of these "door locking on me" posts....... as it is only you by yourself at the time. The "Auto" lock/unlock buttons....the ones with the symbols....lock and unlock ALL the doors. You are not the first or the last that will do it. It is USER ERROR. The truck is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

Yeah, Jimmy's post is gold. I don’t think it is obvious there IS a manual lock button, and this constant thread respawn is a symptom. I don’t see that lock button mentioned anywhere in the manual at all. Personally I don't mind the design, but door locking is one of those things you would think would be well-documented by the OEMs. I mean, mold a "lock" symbol into it? 🤷‍♂️

Someone who had never been in my truck before was riding in the back seat last week, and they were having a field day making fun of my “door handle in two pieces.” They were nearly in tears laughing because they thought it was a ridiculous design decision. I wasn’t quite sure what they were talking about, but now I think I get it. Ford made manual door locks part of a secret club. New members are justifiably hazed. :D

Maybe this??
Ford Maverick Driver's door locking on its own IMG_20241216_135801

Unless somebody can post a honest video showing that it auto locks by itself. I have to believe it's driver error.
If you have or can make a video showing the Maverick Auto locking with the fob inside please post it.
