There is a huge difference in braking between the drive modes. Eco mode is very aggressive in recouping energy, giving enhanced regen while coasting to a stop. Slippery reduces acceleration and braking efficiency to maintain grip, so you have to brake harder a lot more times. Sport mode seems to make the braking more sensitive than normal mode, and never shuts the gas engine off.

My ā€˜25 Lobo will stay in Sport Mode always - maybe ā€œLoboā€ mode occasionally.

I’m ā€œbreaking inā€ my engine/turbo currently…no ā€œgiving it the beansā€ yet. But is already a race car compared to my Corolla Hatchback 2.0 liter w/CVT that I traded in.

17.6mpg so far at 250mi total. After break in, ???

Luckily I’m retired & normally only drive around 2000mi/yr - so crappy gas mileage won’t add up to much more than great gas mileage.
Hey Gary,
I've got about 800 miles on my LOBO and still breaking in the engine. It's a lot different than the '22 GTI that I traded in. Driving normally I've got 25 - 26 mpg but I'm only on my 3rd tankful (including the one from the dealer). I have a mix of country/suburban/stop & go driving. (I hate that engine shut-down thing)
Yes, I also only drive about 2000miles a year.
I'm usually in normal mode but I have activated SPORT mode to see what would do on the traffic circles in The Villages (Florida). The rear differential sent more torque to the outside rear wheel just as Ford said and it helps bring the rear around and reduces understeer. Be aware of this when you try it. I Haven't tried LOBO mode yet. Will have to find a track day event nearby.
I have "given it the beans" occasionally but not WOT - yet. The truck will really move out when asked.
I think the truck did a computer update the other night because I noticed the throttle was more responsive at light applications.
I'd like to put on a cat back system and a better rear sway bar.
I'm retired too, been almost 22 year snow.

My average day is driving starts with cold truck 2 1/2 miles stop for an hour 2 1/2 miles back home and I’m happy to see higher than 18. It does increase significantly if I have to run errands and it stays warm. obviously it’s eco-boost and not hybrid.

So today I was dropping the kids off at grandmas. I decided to try out a few of the other "Drive Modes".

Eco: Nice and normal what I have been driving as. Most of my drives are back and forth from daycare and family runs or will be hardware/wood trips.
Slippery: No idea what this does or how it changes the way you drive. Will have to take out to a snow covered empty parking lot and have some fun.
Normal: Okay, normal.
Tow/Haul: Know it but will rarely use.
Speed: WHAT THE HECK!!! "I am speed, ca-chow!"

I'm curious what you here think of this drive mode. I like the fact I have power and will be able to use it if I need it. Jumps nicely and gain speed very quickly. But besides maybe emergency or aggressive highway situation, what do you here use it for if ever? It was really fun jumping on the high way an getting up to 70 and barely having to put the petal down.

Side question for off roaders/hunter. Do you change your drive mode going into the woods?
I use Sport mode just for fun! I was really surprised the first time I used it 😊

I also use Sport Mode for fun - which is every ride! I always turn on Sport Mode while idling to warmup. I like how it automatically disables the auto start/stop

I'm retired and 1 of the reasons I traded my Silverado that got 15 locally and up to 20 on the highway was for better gas mileage. If I wanted a fun ride with bad mpg I would have gotten a Mustang GT. But it's your gas money so enjoy. I do wonder though what advantage does sport mode do in stop and go urban driving.
Sport mode in stop and go traffic is great to aggravate all those retired drivers who are on the highways between 8:00 and 9:00 am.

Normal mode, yep
Tow haul, self explanatory,

Slippery, equal power at all four wheels. In low this is how I climb up to my cabin. Works great on my road bond #57 love watching my individual wheel power meters when a wheel slips. Way cool.

Eco, screw that ! Makes my Ecoboost run like it needs a tune up.
After extensive testing I found zero, zilch, nada, not any fuel savings what so ever in this mode.
Useless it is.

Sport, hahaha downshifts are cool but I can do sport mode with my big toe. It’s throttle control and that’s in my right foot.
I stamp this mode ā€˜Redundantā€

Auto stop start. Is supremely stupid on my Ecoboost.
Let’s just shut off the engine and the oil flow to my Turbo that’s still coasting down from 20,000 rpm, the bearings must love that.

My preflight, start up, seat belt clipped in,
Hands right near start stop. I disable it, ALWAYS.

I had a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD 2.0 turbo. The manual suggested driving at low speed/rpm 5 minutes before shut down OR let it idle for a couple of minutes before shut down., This would allow the turbo to spool down.
The turbo oil supply came from engine oil pressure so with the engine off = no oil to the turbo bearings.
There were companies that sold a "turbo timer" that allowed you to lock and leave the car and let the engine run for several minutes.

Buggy man, I hear ya. Ever see a tractor trailer going down the road, black and grey smoke blowing out the exhaust stack big Time ?
Young driver blew the turbo because he didn’t cool it down before shut down. His turbo was spinning at 100,000 rpm’s most likely. He fried the bearings in seconds when he cut the oil flow/pressure.
These little turbos we have use ceramic bearings but still. Auto Stop/start is so stupid.

I've noticed driving with others in many makes/models, that Eco usually seems to be merely a change to the gas pedal range of getting power - merely to allow the driver an easier means to drive more economically. If they use it.

But frankly when driving with others that use that mode - they aren't watching the road and anticipating NOT going full steam into that line of red light cars to just sit, they aren't backing off the almost or fully jack-rabbit starts from 4-way stops or front of lines.
The mode isn't really giving these drivers any savings, and they themselves never learned (or forgot) or care how to drive more economically.
Of course it's funny to ask what the savings difference is for them - they don't know because they never compared - but still "oh it's good".
Sometimes I'll try to share 1 tidbit perhaps they can get down to actually improve, but not expecting much.

I have been jumping around between Eco, Normal and Sport's mode on my Tremor Maverick but I don't feel I get a boost in fuel economy between Eco and Normal. I did use Sport mode several times on the highway and it's quite fun.

I wouldn't have an issue with the Auto-Stop if I knew it wasn't causing additional ware on my engine.

Even if I had ā€˜Eco’ mode on my 24 EcoBoost, I would not use it! I bought the turbo for a reason. šŸ˜‰ My wife has a Honda and keeps it on ā€˜the green leaf’ but it makes no difference, except powerless, she has a 2.0 litre also and is very impressed with my 2.0 ā€˜turbo’!
