Well, I did my homework and still lost money. No guarantees in life. :)

Carvana offered just under $26,000 in July of 2024. Since I paid $26k out the door for my '22, getting almost $26k was phenomenal, so I ordered my '25 Maverick on 8/1/24.

2 months later their offer was $24,200. When I finally bought my '25 Maverick on 12/31/24, Carvana offered $22.2k. Some of that was due to mileage I added, but most of it was just the market cooling off finally. Lucky me.

Regardless, $4,000 depreciation in 5 months was kind of hard to stomach. Ford initially low balled me but ultimately matched Carvana's $22k offer.
A lot of people want to order a new truck, and still keep driving their old Maverick until the new one comes in. Then they complain that Carvana offered less money for their truck. When they give you a offer, it's only good for about 10 days, not 4 months. You have to decide if you are willing to sell right now, and order a new truck, or get less when for it when your truck come in. I sold my daily driver to carvana, and drove a beater for 8 months, so when my truck come in, I really loved it!

The AWD Lariat I ordered way back in early September finally arrived today. Unfortunately, I decided not to buy it. I have a 2024 Lariat hybrid now with just 2,900 miles on it in virtually showroom condition. The dealer's offer was a pathetic $30K so when it was all send and done with taxes, registration, etc., I would still be stuck with just over $10K! I felt I got screwed on an immaculate, very low mileage F-150 Super Crew that I traded in for my "24" and told myself it won't happen again! I wanted the "25" for the all-wheel drive, the larger screen and cameras all around rather than just in back. To me, those weren't worth $10K. I really like my "24", its overall 44 mpg to date, it's handling, it being actually fun to drive, and not having to search forever finding a parking spot at Home Depot or WalMart! So yes, I'm quite disappointed after waiting 4 months and not being able make the purchase. Finally, if you're planning on trading in your older Maverick, BEWARE! And be prepared to "bend over" you could say.
Trading a good car like this would have been a mistake. A private sale would have been a godsend on a car like yours to so many who cannot stand buying from most stealers.

Covid premiums are gone. Cars are back to normal as a depreciating asset. Inventory is just sitting at dealers. I have a 24 hybrid that I finally got last year with the price protections from 2022. Been thinking about selling, maybe I get a lot of the money back maybe I don't. I'll see what I get.

Did you try selling it on carvana?

That is nothing unusual. Dealers have been screwing people over on their trades for years. I don't blame you. There isn't $10k worth of difference between 2024 and 2025 assuming both are equipped the same. There are some upgrades on the 2025s that weren't available on the 2024 models, like Hybrid AWD. Basically, you were trying to trade a new 2024 for a new 2025. They are looking to make money on both sides of the deal.

I don’t see how that’s a good post on don’t trade for 24 to 25, yes it’s financial in your case. But that doesn’t reflect the actual upgrades from 24 to 25 in any actual quality.

of course you’ll lose on your ass on 24 model. It’s brand new.

now I have seen tons of post here and on fb and reddit of people selling 22/23 into 25 and they are ecstatic with the upgrades.

unfortunately you just bought the wrong year if you did want a 25

I assume you enjoy your Maverick tho otherwise why would you want a 25? Drive the wheels off it
Yeah, I'd love AWD & newer tech but my '24 Lariat Hybrid only cost me $38k with the X Plan out the door. My wife loves to drive it, so we keep her $60k Sedan in the garage most of the time.

@dpbain1 , if this is the 2nd time you're un-happy with the trade-in/upgrade experience, either you need to find a new dealer, or become a better negotiator.

I traded in a '25 Lariat for a '24 Lariat Tremor, paid the delta, and am enjoying the new truck. Maybe you should have done more research before ordering the '25?

I think it has more to do with your tolerance for playing stupid games with losers.

The eCVT / cv axle on the earlier hybrid is defective. It vibrates v bad between the speed of 80-84 miles per hour. I experienced it every single day and finally got rid of it at 5900 miles. When I was investigating this issue, I came across a few posts where folks were having this exact same issue.
Maybe, you should try it tomorrow and let us know! My 2025 Hybrid Lariat is arriving in a week.

I'm sorry, but some of these posts recently seem to have ZERO thought put into them $30k isn't THAT bad. That's normal depreciation for a USED car. They have to sell it, and No one's going to buy it used for $35k when you can get a brand new updated model for not much more.

The pandemic car flipping times are over, and have been for a while now. Welcome to the real world

people also need to get over the "$20,000" truck mentality. Ford underpriced it at the absolute worst time (for them) due to the shutdowns. You can't get a damn thing new for $20k anymore (hell most new cars under $30k right are piles of straight garbage)--people need to let that shit go.
Right, A dealer isn't going to invest more than wholesale in any vehicle and that's how the deal starts. All dealer vehicles are owned by the banks and need interest every month. That's how it has always worked and nothing has changed. I've know a few dealers over the years.

You'll always get "screwed" if you trade in a year old vehicle....

Also on another note, what did you pay a year ago, and what did you hope to get for it?

My Boss always said you're going to lose 5000 bucks the second the wheels touch the road, and he is right. I used to get a new vehicle every 3 years when I was working, retired now and don't know if I could do it anymore but looking at the Lobo expecting to lose at least 10k on my perfect 22 FX4 with only 13k miles on it, maybe 15k by the time there making them. Prices go up and the value goes down, that will never change. Dealers want to make 3/5k on a used vehicle, that would put your 24 in the range of a new one, wait another year it doesn't make sense for the dealer they could get stuck with your truck unless they have someone for it now, am surprised they offered you that much.

Where do you live that 80-84 miles per hour is acceptable? In NC the maximum speed limit is 70, so most highway patrol ignore anything under 79. 80-84 just seems a bit high for normal driving. I think the only time I've done 80+ is when everyone else is going that fast, and going 75 seems dangerously slow.

Your 24 is probably worth in the 20's, but this has nothing to do with a 24 vs 25. We have nobody to blame for ourselves for supporting these over inflated prices. We got spoiled as the manufacturer's and suppliers took covid to discover they can sell less charge more and artificially control pricing. Some got the unrealistic expectation they could buy new, make money or break even on resell. But plan on losing 25% driving a car off the lot if they stop trying to control supply. I wouldn't pay you 30k for your used truck and probably only those ignorant enough to buy a car on a monthly payment would or a business that makes money with it.

I'm all over dealers, I despise them, wish I didn't have to use them ever as for me they provide zero value and just cost time and money. (Buying new, used is a different story.) However, if you are going to try and trade with them, they are in business to make money. If you don't like the offer, pay cash for the other one, hold on to yours and sell it, that's what they are doing but have a whole lot of overhead.

Also, your comment on not being able to make a purchase, that's completely on you. You should have the money available to make the purchase regardless of your other vehicle or if you needed to sell it, done so in preparation of the new one. That's another problem, if people would stop financing and buy what they have the means to save up and purchase, these trucks would go back to lower prices. But nothing stated here is a reason not to go from a 24 to 25.
