I like it. Plus I would be lying if I haven’t erroneously taken advantage of the auto shift into park.
I used to have trouble putting my car into "Park" because I would just leave it in gear and let the clutch in. Now my Mav is training me to not bother with "Park" again.

Most highend cars have the dial. I like it.

works fine. if you're thinking about a traditional T-handle shifter in this exact place, think about how you would reach the lower cubby area in front of the shifter. you could, but not easily.

I liked the stalk shifter in my Tesla the best. I could shift into drive while rolling backwards.
why would you want to do this?

Initially, I didn't like it. But once muscle memory changed, I don't miss the shift lever at all. Getting rid of the shift lever makes it so much easier to use the storage bin directly in front of it. The stalk was always in the way of storage access, in my Subarus.

I've also gotten in a habit of reaching for the dial without even looking. And using the traditional P R N D L display in the instrument cluster, so I never have to look down at the dial to see what position it's in.

It made it very fast to back out and get going forward before traffic catches up.

Having to come to a full stop when backing out onto a main road, coming to a complete stop and then fumbling at the dial while cars are barreling toward you isn't fun.

I have no idea about the powertrain in a Tesla, but in a Maverick there is a transmission with gears and you do not want to be rolling and slam it into gear or park, so the rotary shifter has no bearing on that.

I would probably find a new technique.

Interestingly Im getting more used to it after converting my work truck to a manual trans. Nothing is in a straight line now so its some how less of a difference.

I have bumped it twice on the interstate and knocked it into neutral. Fortunately, I did not panic and coasted off the road and came to a complete stop before shifting back into drive so not to damage the transmission. Sucks when you start seeing your speed drop and nothing happens when you press the gas other than it revs to the moon. Why is there no lockout while in motion!! I don't hate the idea of the dial shifter I just hate it's location! Super dangerous for sure with wrecks and lawsuits on the way.

park and neutral are locked out, and neutral is not because it's safe to shift between neutral and drive while in motion. you didn't actually need to pull over.
