The "hill assist" engages on the slope of the driveway. The parking brake does not and based on others on this thread theirs doesn't either. I have found no information for the parking brake automatically engaging. Maybe I haven't been on a steep enough incline. And I haven't unbuckled and opened the door while going 35 to test it
My 2023 Silverado set itself every time on the driveway and released with little throttle. Maybe height of vehicle is the difference or weight.
I'm one of the others ☝mentioned above.
This is the incline I tested the parking brake on. It did not automatically engage when I put the truck in park, including opening the door.
I made a 18 second video that I posted on other threads related to the parking brake, not automatically engaging.

Video is here👇 of me testing the parking brake on the incline above☝

I thought I posted this a day or two ago, but apparently not.

If your foot is on the brake when you turn it off, the parking brake is engaged, regardless of incline.

Personally, having learned to drive on a manual in the hills, and mostly having lived in unloved places, I've always set the parking brake before shifting into R or P and killing the engine. But with the diffenrt controls on the maverick, this isn't happening (but my foot is still on the brae while turning the car off, so it sets)

This is a direct excerpt from the owners manual. So I'm not making it up. Nor speaking from ignorance. I can't say what YOUR vehicle does. But I can show what the actual owners manual says and what mine does

In park (P) power is not transmitted to the driven wheels.
Note: A tone sounds if you attempt to exit your vehicle without the vehicle in park (P).
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) if the 12 V battery has run out of charge.
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) if a fuse is blown.
Note: Your vehicle may not shift out of park (P) unless the key or remote control is inside your vehicle.
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply when you power your vehicle on with the selector in park (P).
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply if you shift to park (P) without fully pressing the brake pedal.
Note: The electronic parking brake could apply if you shift to park (P) on a slope.
Note: Do not manually release the parking brake when the selector is in park (P). See Automatically Releasing the Electric Parking Brake.
Note: Your vehicle could shift into park (P) if you attempt to exit your vehicle without the transmission in park (P). See Automatic Return to Park (P).
Note: A tone could sound when you select park (P).

Well the manual says it "could" apply the parking brake but doesn't say it "does" apply the parking brake. I would love to see a video posted by those who claim it does set ON automatically.
The Truck Always automatically shifts to park if the door is opened and the seat belt unbuckled. The parking brake MAY or MAY NOT engage under those circumstances. I have noticed MY Maverick and those I've had in the shop at the dealership engage the parking brake when I shut the truck off on a moderate incline. I don't know whether my foot was on the brake or not when I shut it off. I just know the parking brake applied. There are some places I park where it engages sometimes but not others. And there are other places that are little bit steeper where the parking brake engages every time. Again I can't recall whether my foot is on the brakes or not when it happens

I have read that many times and I am ASKING for video proof of a parking brake setting on automatically. Note the manual says "COULD" not "WILL" or "DOES". I have seen no proof from anyone this happens. I can only go off of my truck and it NEVER sets the brake automatically. Manuals have wrong information all the time. This same manual says the hybrid has a 13.8 gallon fuel tank yet people have posted proof of filling it with over 16 gallons. I do not want to take it to the dealer and waste a techs time, like yourself, for a problem that isn't really a problem if Ford did not program it to ALWAYS set on in those circumstances. I set mine manually because at this point I don;t think Ford programmed it to do anything. My girlfriend has a 2009 Explorer that will gear lock if parked on a slope and the parking brake is not set. So much for the better old style shifter with linkage
If you have actually had the Parking brake set itself then plese replicate the scenario and post a picture of the dash showing it is set. I'm sure you don't want all Maverick owners showing up at the dealers demanding it be fixed.
My 24 Eco doesn’t either! No biggie to me.

It's not a biggie either. When I realized it did not set itself on my driveway I just set it before taking my foot off the brake. I just don;t want people on the form saying the Maverick does something it doesn't do. If someone posts their Maverick self drives itself under some circumstances but only if it feels like it, and they can't prove it but take their word it will maybe, sometimes, well once they think, then I am going to ask for proof.
I agree.
Kind of like me and the infamous self-locking drivers door phenomenon.🤣🤣
No proof/video has ever been posted.😉

Just left the local ER with severe right wrist sprain. The rotary shifter is awesome because I would not have been able to shift a manual transmission at all and the old mechanical shifter either on the column or floor would have been very painful. Plus the push to start was doable with 1 finger, no twisting of the wrist to start, and the wiper stalk also operable with 1 finger.
Loving this truck more everyday. Big bonus was I didn't need to pull myself up into the cab!
Get well soon! Good thing you don’t have paddle shifters😉

I had to listen to I told you so when I got back  . The good news was they took many X-rays and the doctor said I show no signs of arthritis or degenerative joint conditions. He said I have the wrist of 55 year old. I'll take it.
😯 But you're only 40 😯

I like how little space it takes up. It makes it easier to reach the phone/storage/charging areas. Even the cup holders maybe

I said in my posts that indeed it will shift to park if unbuckled and door open. But it will allow you to shift out of park after that happens. Never once have I had the parking brake set itself on. I have tried to get it to do it. Can you shut a Lariat off with your foot not on the brake? I have not tried that. Wednesday night we went to dinner in an old town with cobblestone streets in the "restaurant" district and very steep parking on these streets. I shut the Maverick off without setting the brake and opened the door, it did not set itself. I then manually set it on. I'm just to verify before wasting my time and the technicians time that it is supposed to set itself every time or is it just if it feels like it. If it is a random function then it might as well NEVER set itself.
It is not random in my truck. It's repeatable.

. The action is very repeatable on flat surfaces and on substantial inclines. The only time it may be inconsistent is on a minor incline. First image: put in vehicle in park and shut it off. Parking brake does not engage. Second image: Pulled into my driveway which is on incline. Put the vehicle in park. parking brake engaged automatically. 3rd image: started vehicle while still on the incline. Parking brake still engaged. Touch the accelerator, parking brake disengage vehicle started moving. I have a hybrid. I don't know if it's only for the hybrid or not.

Thanks for the videos. Your drive appears to be similar in slope to mine. I know of a steep driveway I can test it on and if it doesn't set I will schedule a warranty visit. I wonder if the hybrid and eb are different in when it gets set.
I've never paid attention to the EcoBoost. I have a 2023 in the shop for a radio issue. If I think of it, I'll try it out on our steep entrance. . I'm 61, so sometimes the Sr moment kicks in, and I don't think about it until I'm on my way home 😅. But I'll try to remember

Please post what you find, as now I’m curious also. 🤔 Thanks!
