So it sounds like there's no loss in mpg for the lane assist to stay on. It's nice to have for the rare occasions when I drift a little, but most of the time I don't even know it's on.

Thanks for the input guys.

I know the average age here is "nearly dead," so most of you (should) probably know this already, but for any youngins:

"Slush box" isn't *just* a pejorative; it's also a fairly accurate description of how traditional automatic transmissions work.

The "box" is the torque converter and the "slush" is the transmission fluid that bridges the small gap between the turbine at the end of the crankshaft and the impeller at the beginning of the driveshaft.

Because there's no direct, mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, power delivery is less immediate than in other systems. That feel, plus the nature of the fluid coupling inside the torque converter lead to the term.
In my vocabulary, slush box is first and foremost a pejorative. The fact that it's also a descriptor is sheer happenstance. :)

I remember reading that manual cars got better gas mileage, because it took a lot of energy for the car to shift the gears.

I searched for this topic and didn't find it (online or in the manual) and have wondered for a long time if lane assist affects mileage. Does the truck correcting your steering wheel take much energy? I presume not since it's all hydraulics these days, but I'd love to hear a professional's opinion.

If anyone knows, I'd love to hear why it does/doesn't affect the mileage.
I was under the impression that the lane keeping used the rear brakes to steer the truck. If that is so it would have to impact your fuel mileage.

Not true. Since the steering is electrically driven with a motor, the truck is able to control the motor on its own to adjust the wheels when needed.

That isn't even remotely true. Where in the world did you get that from?
Salesman's explanation but did not confirm since I had no plans on using it anyways. Does this mean a salesman would lie or not know what he is selling?

Sounds to me like he didn't know what he was selling.

Either way, it is good to know how it works. Still no intention to use since I am not confident with it steering for me. I have seen too many glitches in the electronics and control systems to let it take that much control.

Yeah, braking's the way Mercedes does their lane keeping, not Ford. I like the Ford way more better. It feels more natural and less disconcerting.

The salesman was likely talking about electronic stability control, not lane keeping assist.

I like the Ford method too. The other way just puts unnecessary wear on the brakes.

You know i have seen some youtube videos about Ford Copilot possible causing premature were on electonic steering rack components. I leave mine off as it makes sense as auto tech.

That's interesting.
Could you possibly please post a link to those YouTube videos.
Thank you.

I have wondered this exact same thing because it just seems that when I use lane keep the mileage improves. Logically that could be the cruise as we have to have cruise engaged to use lane keep but I have grown rather fond of this feature (until it starts to argue with me). I have found if I give the steering wheel a slight nudge when passing off/on ramps (no fog line) the system responds and does NOT cancel the feature. So I am on the side of yes, it does effect mileage.
