I've scoured this forum and the owners manual for this and the only answer I could find is via the Ford "Intelligent Search" which seems to be AI driven. It gives me the answer below, and I had to use the term stoplamps instead of brake lights to get the answer.

I would think since the Auto Hold feature is auto holding the brakes it would keep the brake lights illuminated. I feel since it doesn't, it presents a higher probablility to get rear ended, possibly more so at night. I would not want to be stopped in traffic without my brake lights on. This makes me not want to use auto hold as often as I do.

For reference, I got a 2025 XT and searched in regards to that model year in case this is different from other model years.

Can anyone verify if the answer I got is correct?

My brake lights stay on when I release the brake pedal while using auto-hold. I tested this recently when I pulled into the garage and closed the garage door. (Don't worry, I was in Electric mode, so the gas engine wasn't running in the closed up garage).

Like he ☝☝☝☝☝☝said, yes it does keep the brake light on.
I checked it out one night, in the window of a closed store.
I also checked out my flashing third brake light.(That I installed)

Thank you for verification, but then why would the Ford website say it doesn't? Bad AI I presume?

The auto hold definitely activates the brake lights. It would be stupid if it didn't lol.
I also felt it would be stupid if it didn't, which is why I was surprised with the answer I got.

Whatever "AI" provided that answer is either malfunctioning, or didn't understand your question.

Auto-hold absolutely keeps the brake lights illuminated after you take your foot off the pedal. From a liability perspective, there is no way an OEM could let brake lights act unexpectedly. Heck, many of the trucks (including mine) have a recall about rear light outage detection. :)

Yes, it does for safety. If it didn't, you know how many accidents it would lead to? This feature is intended to be used safely with the public at your convenience, such as sitting in traffic or waiting for a train to go buy. That AI generated answer is way off.

I was stopped for a train the other day and semi truck came up behind me. This semi had highly polished chrome across the front of it and I was using the auto stop and it was active. I could clearly see the reflections on the front of the semi in my rear view mirror and yes all the brakes lights were still on even if my foot was off the brake pedal

Like Glen Baker, I installed a flashing 3rd brake light bulb. It flashes 3 or 4 times every time I hit the brakes. I have also backed up to a window at night and observed that the brake lights do stay on even after I take my foot off the brake, when the auto hold is on.

I love the auto hold. It’s kinda like a line lock on a drag racer.

Ha. Just got my Maverick and was wondering what that button does. Now I know it activates auto hold. Glad I check the club threads every so often.

I wonder if the brake light comes on when I let off the gas in eco mode in my hybrid. The truck slows quite a bit and might be dangerous if it doesn’t activate the brake lights. Especially dangerous if it doesn’t come on in low mode. I know my Bolt EV does.

I have a related question. When using the automatic cruise control feature where the distance of the vehicle ahead is automatically monitored and controlled, when the vehicle ahead slows down significantly and the Maverick automatically hits the brakes are the brake lights illuminated as well?

I have used this automated cruise control feature when the truck had to quickly slow from 75 mph to near 0, while I kept my foot just above the brake (just in case). But, if the brake lights were not lit it would be really dangerous if the vehicle behind me didn't have that warning.

It seems logical (and required by law) that whenever and however the brakes are applied the brake lights should be illuminated. But does anyone know this for a fact?

On the Maverick Hybrid, the brakelights do not come on when you're using L to assist with braking down a hill. Same as a manual shift vehicle when you "gear down" to help slow it down. Brakelights don't illuminate. If someone is following behind you, this is not a safe way to slow down.
