This works for me. Easy to install on USB outlet, and really low cost (color choice and adjustable intensity):

yeah that is simple but you loose your usb port. You can't plug anything else into it.

In series with the LED, a resistor in a parallel circuit won’t do anything.
Exactly. It wires before the anode (longer of the two leads).

Thank you for the links to get the parts.
I may up the resistor to lower the light level.
Does the color of this light match the other lights?
The phone's camera overexposed the picture since it was dark, but that's the nice thing about the resistors, you can modify the brightness to your liking. It's a white light, matches the cluster lights just fine.

Ok. Without ordering the part and being 100% sure...

There is a difference in part numbers between the 2022 and 2023. The 2022 part appeared to have the cutout for the light, while the 2023 does not have it.

2022 cover: NZ6Z26044F58BA
2023 cover: NZ6Z26044F58AA

The light assembly includes the light and the female plug. From what we could see, there is no separate harness that you can buy to use with it, as the entire dash harness is one part number. So, even if you do order the factory light, you're going to have to cut the plug off of it and hardwire it.

Light assembly: NZ6Z14A318A

As far as I can tell, my method is the most cost effective and doesn't involve cutting an opening into the cover for the light.
Bought the Ford ambient light assembly and hooked it up to a 9V battery and it did not work. Tried hooking it up to my 12V riding mower battery, also did not light up. There are 3 wires on the Ford LED, one is labeled VBAT, one is labeled LIN, and the last is unlabeled (assuming its ground). I think the LIN wire is some sort of communication link and perhaps it is required to be hooked up to run the light. The assembly is it’s own circuit board so there’s some other things going on there. If anyone might have a clue on how to power this light I can ship it to you to test it out.

Yes LIN is likely Local Interconnect Network, a control protocol used in vehicles. Would need to find and tap the corresponding wire for it.

Did you try applying power to both vbat and lin while grounding the last one (or some combination of that)? Without having someone with a 2022 and a multimeter actually test the wires, it's a crapshoot.

Ill play around with different combinations and report back

I tried every combination of the 3 wires and nothing worked. I ended up using the 12v mower battery and wiring directly to the LED and it lit up for a second then went out. Now it just dimly flickers white when I do that. Maybe I shorted it…

Yeah, especially if you didn't use a resistor. At least you tried!

Instead of ordering the factory part, I decided to just make my own ambient/console light.

Remove the lid (clips circled in green, other clips are hidden towards the back) and unplug the harness (red circle) that is used to illuminate the USB ports.

You'll tap into the white/stripe for your (-) ground and purple/stripe will be your 12v (+) positive - these will dim along with the dimmer switch on the dashboard. The yellow/stripe is switched 12v that can be used for some other low power accessory. Dash cam, etc...

I used an LED light along with a 1k ohm resistor, soldered them together, wired everything up with some spare 18ga and taped them up. Shrink tubing would also work, but I didn't have any and didn't want to go back to the store. I used a 3M Command Strip and mounted it where the factory light would've been (there's an outline in the molding).

Looks pretty good. I might purchase some more and do the footwells.
thanks for putting in the work! also glad to see the parts at microcenter, gotta love being a short drive away from them 😁

how's the footwell lighting going? i'm about to do all of it at once while the console's popped open. any advice whether to run the led diode and strips in series vs parallel? this'll be my first go at doing anything electrical ever in my life 😬

I have the parts, but haven't done the foot wells yet. You'll need to be cautious around the driver's side knee airbag. Each light should have it's own resistor and should be wired in parallel.

Finally got around to installing the foot well lighting! This time I decided to use 2.2k ohm resistors to dim it down a bit more. I wouldn't go higher than that. If you want brighter, go for the 1k ohm. I would stay in the 1-2.5k range. Keep in mind these dim with the gauges.

Placed the driver's side in the same spot as factory.

Placed the passenger side on the fan housing for a bit more of a centered placement compared to the factory spot which is off to the left.

On a side note, if someone that has a lariat could take a picture of the light in the door handles that would be great.

I'd also like to add the Corsair illuminated cup holders, so that might be the spring project.

Just saw your request about the door handle ambient lighting. I have attached some photos to show you what it looks like.
