I've been trying to find out how much reserve gas is left after miles to empty is zero on a hybrid.

Please share any info you have on how far you can go past 0 MTE or if anyone has run out.... how far you got.

I am on me first tank and the gas is 2 months or more old so I want to get it as empty as possible without running out.

You better carry around a jug of gas.

It is about 2 gallons.

So whatever your MPG is x2.

I think your logic is faulty. Two month old gas isn't anything to worry about.

But maybe I'm wrong. Run the tank down to something close to zero, put a few gallons in the tank to dilute the old gas, run that down to near zero, then fill up and drive on.

Definitely. Especially in a pressurized tank like the Hybrid uses. There is little to no water vapor available to taint the gas.

Someone had created a thread about running out of gas on his hybrid.
I forgot if he mentioned how many miles past 0 he drive, but I'm curious about this as well.

I don't think leaving just a little bit of old gas in the tank is going to matter once you top it off with fresh gas.

My Mav is not a hybrid, but I went to 0 miles to empty 1 block from the gas station, and I put in 16.7 gallons of gas. I think the gas tanks are bigger than advertised.

So I saw this thread and decided I’d give it a shot yesterday knowing that my miles to destination were more than what my MTE stated. I posted a couple photos of my guages when the truck indicated 0 miles to empty and again when my car reached home.

I drove 31.6 miles after truck read empty so, assuming approx two gallons of remaining fuel I should’ve had a little more than 1 gallon of gas remaining. I filled up today and the pump stopped at 15.127 gallons. I believe the stated capacity of the tank is 15.9 gallons with usable capacity of 13.9 gallons.
I averaged 38mpg for those last 31 miles. The computer came within a few tenths of being spot on with what I’d expect. Based on all these numbers I wouldn’t have made it much past 50 miles after empty warning. Now if my miles weren’t all highway for the 30 mile drive the way they were, I could easily have gone 60+ miles.

If you really want to know exactly how far, there is only one way to find out. :)

There's an earlier related thread where a member wanted to know if the Maverick hybrid could drive with an empty tank just using the electric motor. Turns out it could, but at a low speed. Could to know in an emergency . . . let's hope you never find yourself in that situation.
