Miles after empty?

Just curious if I run out of fuel will the hybrid battery allow the vehicle to run a few extra miles?

Yes, one guy ran it till it's bone dry- I think I remember he went 10miles electric on flat ground, and slow. the manual says the "usable" fuel tank is 13.8 gallons but it's really a couple gallons more than that.

Two separate facts have been proven/illustrated:

Both variants of the truck, EcoBoost and Hybrids have about 2 gallons of "emergency" fuel usable beyond the pretend "empty" mark, that is; beyond when the truck says miles remaining = zero.

Second: in the HYBRID if you actually run to actual empty by driving 50-60-70 or 80 miles past the computer estimated empty mark, you CAN run up to 3 miles on battery power only in a best case scenario, at 25 mph.

How often does "best case" scenario come up? Not that often. It means your hybrid battery was at the absolute maximum charge at the moment you ran out of gas. Not very likely.

Is is likely your hybrid will have a mid-way charge at the moment you run out of gas. So you will get proportionally "mid-way" of the 3 miles of electric drive. Moral of the story: don't bet on more than a mile or two. But high odds you'll get at least a mile.

I’ve put in 13.5 with the dash saying that I still had 15 miles to empty. Maybe the trucks gasoline capacity is slightly more than 13.8 gallons.

I don't know about the hybrid but my Ecoboost sounds an alarm when 50 miles to empty.

Tank is DEFNITELY bigger than 13.8gal, but the "usable" volume is listed at that.

Some have said it's probably close to 16gal real volume. But the tank in the Hybrid is shaped a little funny so the pump might have issues getting that much pushed.
