Disappointing Infotainment

Come on Ford.... How many years have you had to make a system that actually works reliably? Why, in 2022, does it disconnect from my phone every time I drive? This is not an exaggeration. It happens every day. Random place, random time. Screen works most of the time. Volume knob randomly does absolutely nothing. Back up camera works eventually after selecting reverse. Working in the parts department for many years and having ordered countless Apim's, display screens, audio control modules, etc, begs the question why can't you get it right? Rant over.

Probably your phone or the cable you're using or you just have a defective unit based on the volume issue. My system in my lowly XL connects perfect every time and I recently switched from Android to an iphone and I've had the same positive
experience with both.

Also I don't have a reverse delay with the camera but I think there's a setting that automatically delays the camera view which maybe is turned on?

Defective unit is what all signs point to. Phone always works fine with my other vehicles. (bluetooth, not cable) Camera worked fine for about the first 5k miles or so.

Camera should bypass the infotainment. In my Escape, the camera will kick the screen on even if Sync isn't even finished loading yet. The distance indicators may not be visible for a hot second, but the camera works.

I don't know what one would not use the cable? Carplay and Android auto are the only way to go on these IMO. No issues for me either. This truck doesn't have an APIM btw. At least in the non Sync models

Android Auto was having issues on particular versions, if that's what you're using. Make sure it's updated...

In the 2019 escapes there was a very annoying delay of a few to several seconds from what is displayed on a phone screen to what is played over the infotainment system. I hope that is fixed. If my 2017 Hyundai and the cheap radio in my old truck could play over Bluetooth without any perceptible delay ford can fix this.

You got me there then, Android Auto and Carplay are game changers so I always plug in for that interface. I enjoy being able to see navigation and music info on the screen with carplay. Bluetooth is wonky since it uses a VERY common 2.4ghz frequency so basically there are so many things that could cause signal interference/interruption between your phone and the head unit.

Since the radio can be used the normal way, I will never use the video screen. Can it be removed? Would it leave a hole or is the dashboard behind it?

Wut? If you take the screen out, how would you have radio control? And no, you can't just take it out and have a finished space behind it. That's akin to asking if you can take the instrument cluster out and have a finished space behind it.

Based on your previous posts and this one, maybe you should read your owners manual.

Issue could:
be your phone
your phone not updated to current OS
phone needing to be restarted
if connecting via USB - cord issues or phone connector
Sync software level requiring update

I was having occasional random issues and then I swapped from a 3rd party USB cable to the USB-C-to-lightning cable that came with my phone. Seems to be working reliably now.

Based on your previous posts and this one, maybe you should read your owners manual.

Issue could:

phone needing to be restarted

Sync software level requiring update

Not likely to be phone, as the same phone works without issue in every other vehicle regularly.
Again, this is bluetooth, not cable.
